I'm sure I saw something here before but couldn't find it when I searched. Has anyone added a 12 volt alternator on their A3? I was thinking that someone was even selling kits to do it but I couldn't find those either. Thanks for any help guys!
I obviously don't know as much as I thought I did, I was always taught that ground is ground, voltage didn't matter. I'm betting this is the problem if they need to be isolated. How do i isolate 12v and 24v on the same truck? Can I ground the 24v side to the chassis and the 12v side to the battery?
I completely agree that it is over complicated. I wanted to get a single unit, but these were cheap so the Chief bought them and told me to figure it out. Sometimes its better to spend a little more.....
I've been tasked with building a 24v-12v step down for an M35A3 our FD is building into a brush truck. I have everything put together, but when I put 24v power to the panel the converter boxes don't like it and get HOT! I've had 3 other people look at it and they're not quite sure what the deal...
Winch testing went well and our plan should work out just like we were hoping. The air dryer needed rebuilt so we did that today and then mounted the bed and tank back in the chassis. The rest of the afternoon will be spent mocking up my electrical system and switch panel so I can figure out...
Got the winch in place tonight. We want to test our orbital motor plan before we permanently mount everything and that should happen this weekend as well.
Got a little more done on the Deuce. Bed and Tank were painted the same time as the truck, just didn't have any pictures. Put bedliner in the bed and built the platform at the front today. Winch should get mounted in the frame tonight. Bed and tank back on this weekend so I can start running...
Thanks guys. We've got a lot of work to do yet, but it's definitely going to be worth it. After working on this thing I'm thinking it may be time for me to get an MV of my own.
Well it has been awhile since an update, but we had to put our project on hold for a little bit. We are working on it again now so that it's ready for the Fall fire season. Paint is done and in the next couple of weeks we'll get the box back on, the tank in, plumbing run, and electrical done...
Sounds like it to me too, been down that road before. Do yourself a favor and install a pressure gauge before the IP so you can tell when your lift pump fails. I think the book says 10psi minimum, I always wanted mine to be in that 14-16 psi range. If you don't have any mods done to the truck...
Thanks for the info. We already have the tank, it's one of those 600 gallon aluminum fuel pods, so it sits up a little higher than you're talking. We're not worried about the overall weight we just want to make sure that it's distributed correctly. Thanks again for sharing I've certainly gotten...
Great looking rigs! We're in the process of building one out of an M35A3, it's not going to be as fancy as those are though! How much water are those hauling and how is the weight distribution? We're having a hard time figuring out where exactly to mount the tank (600 gallon pod) to get the...
Well after a closer inspection today they are most definitely the fiberglass seats. I'm going to have to remember to look closer at things before I ask a question. Thanks for all of your help guys, between the seats, bows, and vinyl cargo cover we should be able to cover the cost of a lot of the...
Thanks for the info guys. I could have swore that they were all aluminum, but I'm going to go get a better look at them tomorrow and maybe scratch a little paint off so I can tell for sure.
Our Fire Department just got an M35A3. It has aluminum troop seats and bows and we have no use for them. I have looked everywhere I know of to find out what they may be worth but I can't find anything. Anybody know what they go for? We're hoping to sell the extra things off of it to help fund...
Thanks for the heads up on the tires, ours has 6 brand new ones on it, plus a brand new spare. I will start looking though to see if I can find us another set to have around.
I would be very interested in the details of your build. We're working with the exact same stuff as you have there and I would love to see how you put it together.
Could any of you guys that have built brush rigs out of 6x6's post some pictures of the pump and plumbing on your rigs? We're in the process of deciding what we want to do there and are having a hard time deciding what will work the best. Thanks!
