Stumps-- those were not insurmountable mudholes-- they were 85% water.... The problem was simply that one side had more traction than the other and slippage occurred. Thus allowing all the power go to the one side of the differential with no traction.
Here's my truck doing the same thing...
But Bjorn.. That is where I want to be. I don't want to be on the flat and level.. I want to be on the edge of disaster with my truck... That is why I need the lockers. And yes lockers will potentially cause more breakage if you abuse them. However, using them correctly they will reduce strain...
Everything Fails eventually. Will lockers put more stress on my axles? Yes. That is why I plan on replacing them with stronger axles and gear sets.
If you enjoy your truck as it is. Great. Have fun.
Tatra's can be insured... They are expensive because they are all class 7-8 trucks...
The point wasn't that I'm buying a Tatra ( I wish) the point is for about 10grand I will have a truck with capabilities approaching the Tatra trucks. I mean with Air-Lockers my M35A2 will have positive...
Bjorn-- Chains are great. I plan on get enough for my truck's 3 axles. However, chains won't provide any traction for you when you have tires in the air. Did you watch the video of the Tatra trucks with axles in the air and moving up the hills still or being stuck at unholy angles and still...
No, because the topic is not the same. Before I thought erroneously that you people might have some of the same questions about the M35's design short comings as I do. However, after reading 29 pages of your drivel about "air-lockers being too this or that", "the truck staying on pavement...
Why We Lock...
Let me start of by saying that my M35A2 is a blast to drive on the streets and off-road. However, I find it lacking. I find it sort of on the petite side of the off-roading world. It doesn't have much power. It's open differentials will leave you stranded in the wilderness...
Yes, the LDT should only make 130hp-- however, most trucks have been rebuilt with LDS 1A injector pumps. So all one needs to get 175-185hp are the bigger 2-hole injectors. Once you get those balanced and tuned I would not be surprised to find the engine making 190hp.
What exactly are the stupid places? This truck is inadequately outfitted and now that I have 1/3 of ARB Air-Lockers in my grubby hands the truck is getting better by the minute.
I wasn't very clear there. I was thinking just cheaper than purchasing say 3 axles from an A3, the tires and rims, CTIS controller and so on. I would think that it would be about the same price to buy a new A3 and install the power pack I want in it as it would be to install the parts I want...
It might be easier-- but oddly enough it will be cheaper to do what I want. Since I plan on buying an entire A3 truck I can just take off what I want and sell the rest. That will pay for some of the additions. My changes will not be that radical actually. It will look and act like a M35A2...
What is interesting about the M-Series trucks developed after WWII is that their primary theater of operations was the continent Europe. And oddly enough trucks like the Tatra T-813, Kraz 255B, and Ural 375 were all designed to operate in Western and Eastern Europe. And I think the Soviet...
I don't want more speed- I want 14.5x20 tires for the added traction in the off-road conditions I like to drive under.
Lockers have been around for a longtime. The Kraz 255B had them back in the 1960's and so did Tatra Trucks. I can understand why mechanical lockers might be considered...
I don't like the Allison transmission in the A3 trucks. And I'm not that keen on the Cat 3116 engine either... But I would want to put a Fuller 6spd gear box in the truck. And right now I have the ARB lockers and the M35A2 so I figure make this the coolest truck of the week. Plus I've...
I might put the split break system from the A3 into the truck. How much faster will the truck go with 14.5:20R tire? In forth gear a regular M35A3 only does about 53mph in high with the engine running at 2700rpm in Fourth ( direct). I figure I'll probably see about 50-51mph top in fourth gear...
