Since I became a deuce owner for the last couple of years-- I've often puzzled over why the basic M35A2 series trucks lack the following:
1) Air-Lockers ( I have recently purchased 3x RD145 model lockers from ARB)
2) CTIS ( in the process of procuring 3x M35A3 axles and CTIS system)
3)...
I've been noticing that M35A3's sell much cheaper than they had been in the past. I think I'll buy one and get three Axles with CTIS hubs, tires, and a few other parts and have a super deuce made up for myself-- So I'm probably not going to put the ARB's into these axles on "the Duke"...
I have air switches... Electric Air types like this rated for 150 PSI maximum. I have two of them on order- One for the front differential and one for the rear tandem diffs.
Air / Electric Toggle Switch, 3200-1A, K295-362-1, 08-02934
Check it out they are cheap and they are 24volt they look...
Weight is fine-- but one of the problems with weight is shifting dynamic loads. You know you get 3000lbs in the box but if the bias is to left side the load could be 10 or 20% greater on the left side than on the right side- thus giving the left side a traction advantage over that of the right...
I would really love to get a Tatra T-815-7 series 8x8 truck with the capabilities shown in this video I think would fun to play with.

so until then I will make my M35A2 as...
That is a concern of mine how much stress can the stock axles take. However, a this point I just don't have the cash for new stronger 16 spline axles. New axle shafts of a stronger material and gear set are future up grades. Basically when I put lockers into A3 axles.
The air-lockers don't show up until Tuesday to Wednesday... So I'm unable to show any pictures of anything yet. No, I'm going to run them off the standard air-reservoir. They need about few cubic inches of air flow at 90psi to operate correctly.
I plan on having them in two circuits: A) that does the front differential, B) that does the rear two differentials. This way I can use the rear differentials when I want to say go around in 6x4 but still have plenty of traction to spare. or 6x6 but would still like to turn a little. finally...
I'll put up some video of it working once I have them all installed. However, I think completely amazing will be when I put the A3 axles under the truck with the CTIS and the Air-Lockers in combination then I'll as much positive traction as I possible can handle. So I'll get a set of chains for...
the only traction aid I know of on a A3 is CTIS... which is okay in some circumstances but it is not a set of air-lockers on all three axles. Perhaps, some one added to them to the truck for the **** of it. Was it privately owned before you purchased it???
So I've finally purchased my ARB RD145 series 2.5 Ton Rockwell Air-Locking differentials for "The Duke"... I've always been a fan of 100% positive traction and very soon the truck will have it. I cannot wait to put them in next week...
I still have designs to put in a water-injection...
I've always played on taking it easy on the Duke... I also plan on increasing the Duke's raw power and traction too... Air-Lockers all around and newer DT-466 with more power coupled to transmission will make this truck a brute.
Nice Truck... Now all you need to do is film or photograph it off-road so we can all share in your triumphs and failures in the face of nature's most gruelling obstacles. Check out my video on mudding here:
Here is some of the fun you can have with yours... Remember only do stuff like this...
You are absolutely correct about the problems with off-road driving. The fact is no matter how "lightly one attempts to tread" off-road the fact remains substantial damage to the environment will occur. The M35 even when driven very carefully will do the same amount of damage as several smaller...
