Mouse?
Oh No! I hope the Dept of the Interior does not come down on this fellow for interfering with the mouse's habitat! It could be an Endangered CUCV Mouse??
Love crazy ides
I love your crazy idea!
The M1070 is awesome and I applaud your ambition, as this looks like a seriously
problematic undertaking....:driver::driver:
4x4 sections
This weekend I am going to experiment using two eight foot long 4x4 sections and
try using a come-along and a small hand-crank winch to drag a wheel/tire from the
ground up into the 5-Ton cargo bed.
Has anyone ever weighed an 1100x20 tire mounted on a stock steel rim?
In my...
Okay you guys, now that I have a M52A2 I have a serious question. This has not become a problem yet, but it easily could become one.
Question: If a get a flat tire I can get the spare tire off the rack and onto the ground okay. Jack the truck with my air/hydraulic jack. Use the gladhand...
5-Tons
Once you "step up" you won't want to go back.
They are like women. Like the man said, they will suck your wallet dry. But leave
you with a smile on your face.:)
Lurking out of sight
All over America lurking out of sight are literally thousands of treasures like this, just
waiting to be discovered and brought back to life.....:driver:
Phase out...
I have two NG members that I work with and they tell me the Michigan Nat'l
Guard is phasing out all the dueces and 5-Tons as we speak. Replacing them
with the new 7-Ton(LRAC ?). I asked about spare parts and tires available to go on sale at auction, and was told their is so...
Me too
Don't feel dumb for asking.
I did not know what it was either, never haven driven any trucks while on active duty. So I had to look it up in the TMs also.
The jump from dueces to the larger trucks does involve a "learning curve"...
Sad but true...
Marines had trucks! I can hardly remember any! We had to hoof it everywhere!!
Oh yeh, some trucks did pass us and spray the formation with dust, mud and gravel
once in a while:-P
Total agreement on the USAF trucks. I bought my M109A3 off of Selfridge Air Force Base, a...
Another suggestion
Also, do not try this by yourself! You might need someone else to dial 911 for you
after the steel bar hits you in the head and knocks you out. :-o
Sorry, I am not kidding about this.
My son and I put 395R20s on a wheel and it took us an hour, and we were flat out...
Any Gear
73m816 set me straight on the questions of which gears will have six wheel drive.
ANY gear. When the sprag moves into position because the front and rear axles are turning at different speeds; the transfer case engages the front drive shaft and
you have those three magic words: "SIX...
Merry XMAS
MERRY XMAS and great driving to all my fellow Michiganders!
Beware, that "discretionary enforcement" can end up being a citation on any
given day.
Love those large cabs!
Great looking truck. I love large cab conversions.
Man, now I truly have to save up the money to build a polebarn big enough to
get my trucks out of the weather and work on these types of projects. :driver:
No common sense
So many people out there have never hauled anything substantial before and think
if it fits in the back of their pickup or trailer that "all is well".
They simply have no common sense to draw from.
To quote a famous comedian: "You can't fix stupid"....aua
Another project!
Yeh, great build. Now i am thinking about converting my M109A3, and I am super busy already.
Oh well, it seems that I am always one or two projects behind schedule all the time!
Commercial Vehicle?
I had ALLSTATE for years. They insured my M207 and the M109A3 with no problem
at all.
Then I bought my 5-Ton(M52A2) and they said NO WAY! "You cannot use a commercial vehicle for private use!" I told them the definition of a "commwecial
vehicle" is a vehicle you use...
Tool Box
Darn. It looks like I might need a bigger tool box! I already have stored an air over hydraulic 20 ton jack, .75" impact wrench and air line w/ gladhand, geared lugwrench, 40K pound tow strap and wheel chocks.
I guess I can put together an emergency welding kit and store it...
