Thanks Iceman - the trans and transfer came out of the same truck, a '97 GMC 4x4 with a 350 stroked out to 383 (if I can get my paws on it), so I'm not terribly worried about them fitting together. He has the whole truck up for parts, so I will try and grab the wiring harness for the trans, and...
OK - stage one (collect parts) is underway. The MV gods smiled on me, and I found a turbo setup from an older 1008 for sale about 15min from my house. Check out all I managed to scrounge:
GM-8 turbo, VDO/pyrometer cluster, and oil return
Custom crossover pipe and the intake manifold...
Thanks CC - I actually had a guy respond (after 2 weeks) to his CL advert on a complete 6.5 turbo setup with the DB2 injector pump.... turns out he posted the ad and then went overseas. Ugh. Yes, rebuilding my 6.2, adding a turbo, and then strapping on a donor 4L80E would be a good solution...I...
Alright - stalking a '95 'Burban 2500 with a rusted frame. It has a 6.5 turbo (197,000mi) and 4L80E trans... guy wants 1100 for it. Obviously I'm going to have the engine and trans completely redone. Heck, I might even scavenge the front seats/console out of it before I send it to the scrapyard...
Thanks Coal Cracker. Weatherly PA is about 210mi from me on highways - add back roads and a 50mph top speed with Merle, and it would take me all day to get to you! If I can't find anyone closer I might have to grit my teeth and make he drive. I am looking to pull a whole 6.5 drivetrain from a...
Uh...looking to keep it pretty much original, and not looking to hack into my frame to put in a Cummins/manual set-up. I want it to look like a real 1028, just tweaked for optimum performance and reliability on and off the road.
so...again...anyone up here in NoVa know a crew that could take...
Well gentlemen, Merle needs a heart transplant. I'm retiring next Summer, and my son and I are going to go on a little "great western" camping trip to celebrate. We'll take Merle and camp along the way. To make this a reality, Merle is going to need a heart transplant. I have already started...
Yup...wanna do this to my 1028... but first things first - we're in full on hunt mode for a 700R4. I love this truck, but for it to attain DD status, I need to be able to go more than 55mph without grenade this 6.2!
Nice. Look at the hitch mount, swing away tire carriers. They are a cheaper alternative to the new bumper and gate route. My 1028 has a 10k Reese hitch mounted under the bumper...get to keep the pintle too!
Next dumbass question... which is the inlet, and which is the outlet on this danged Bosch injector? I have looked for markings, but can find none. Does it matter? The -30 manual doesn't say (and the injectors in the original 6.2 look a little different in the manual!).... Gaaaahhh!
OK - got the injector out (30mm deep well impact socket from NAPA), and after 30min on my belly, snaked into the engine bay with a drop light and some hemostats, I managed to extract this beast.
Now I know why it snapped off - look at how nasty that end is! All I have to do now is put...
OK - I went thru the -30 and followed all the steps to pull the injector (disconnected everything and even took out the battery tray so I could get more room), but can't get any purchase on the injector to unscrew it. It is so tight in there, nothing can get on / around it without bumping into...
Sweet. A buddy loaned me a pair of hemostats from his tackle box tonight, so I'll give it a whirl in the morning. I can't believe the while dang electrode snapped off in there...it must be swollen as all get out!
Merle has been very reluctant now in cold weather, and we have been having single digit temps since I got back from Afghanistan two weeks ago. I had several swollen glow plugs, so I ordered the handy tool from JJ&A Racing. I got almost all the beat up plugs out (some looked like they had been in...
Dang! It doesn't get that cold on the N. Side of Boll'mer, does it Dudley? On the bonus side, the truck should fire right up, and the heat should be pumping in a jiffy!
