The 700R4 battle continued. Bolted up a remanufactured Sonnax valve body (with updates) and took it for a drive. Now I’m happy with how it is driving. Welded up a spare tire mount, and slapped some paint on it.
Tomorrow I think I am going to put a pressure gauge on
the transmission to...
Use gravity? That is cheating! When the day comes that I do another transmission I’ll remember that trick. Hopefully this weekend I’ll actually get the transmission swapped and do some fine tuning providing I didn’t totally screw anything up.
So now you have to spill your Jedi master knowledge... How do you check endplay without touching the splines? Tractor beam? Some magical expensive tool?
When you break a line loose and turn the engine over are you getting any fuel at all out of the line? Drips count. It is a metered amount of fuel, not a garden hose.
@ Olly Hondro... I’m with you on the dually front hubs, but you must have a deep hatred towards fenders to run that setup. Even with my setup the fenders had to get a little trimming.
Stock HMMWV wheels are about 7” backspacing.
Flat centers can get you all the way up to 5”
Stamped centers are 3.5”
I ran flat centers with gussets and managed to crack the gussets and wheel shells in 10,000 miles. They actually leaked out the cracks. If you search the site you can find my...
I went outside and gave the top hose a squeeze on the 6.2. With the overflow hose removed I got an audible click from the radiator cap, a drip or five out of the nipple at the neck then nothing.
I have one one of those fancy Stant caps with the lever on it and a cheap import aluminum radiator.
And now for something serious...
700R4 build continues. Procrastinated all AM, got the drum loaded up and figured out I needed a different size pressure plate (they come in 5 different sizes). Procrastinated some more then decided to turn down the one I had. Now the clearance is within...
How much have you driven it since you put the new heads on? Are you confident that all the air is purged out of the cooling system? How about the health of your thermostat and radiator cap? Since your coolant system holds pressure with a pressure test I don’t understand what is leading you...
From experience I’d go slow diagnosing the problem. I tore the head off an engine in a skid steer I owned that had less than 100 hours on a rebuild because I convinced myself that the engine had failed in some sort of thermonuclear fashion. Turned out it was a stuck injector...
If it was me I...
Sorry to hear your rig dealt you a square kick to the groin. Mine also does that sometimes, had me seriously thinking about a 4 door Jeep JK when I broke my transmission case a couple weeks ago. Then I think... I don’t own a flat bill hat, nor am I hip enough to own a Jeep. So I fix my ride...
Yep, read the TM. If you scroll to the top click on the “Technical Manuals” link then find what you need.
That being said if the previous owner did some electrical modifications who knows how far your glow plug design has drifted from OE design.
Put your multimeter on DC volts, measure the...
