A day or three of your life and it will be good as new!
For me...
In 12,000 miles I replaced the ones that the rig had when I bought it with some Wellmans, ran those for about 6,000 miles. They didn’t fail, but after spending some time on the forum and reading about the Wellman Swellman reputation I swapped in the Bosch glow plugs.
I replace them...
Pulled out my Bosch glow plugs today (less than 6000 miles on them), 7 were still working.
One decided to break apart and take out an injector... The tip is probably in my muffler.
I swapped the injector with a good one I had and put in my spare glow plug until the new ones show up.
I just...
If you care to read the TM find....
TM 9-2320-289-34
go to section 6-7
I know there are varying opinions of how important correct preload is. Personally I like some assurance that what I just repaired will last a while. Hence I tend to stick to known methods and don’t rely on “blips of an...
Take some time to read the TM on your rear axle.
If your axle has a crush sleeve (95% sure it does) the torque applied to the pinion nut sets the pinion bearing preload. Too little or too much preload = failure.
There is a third “hub” bearing that gets neglected on a Dana 60. On the inboard side of the spindles, where they bolt to the knuckles there is a roller bearing that the outer shaft gets supported by. The only time this bearing is in play is when the hubs are locked, or the t-case is in 4wd...
Something else to look at its the three screws that fasten the top cover onto the injection pump. If one of the screws has a little metal tag with the letter "E" stamped on it the pump has been worked on some time in it's life and it has had the old plastic governor weight retainer replaced...
Go for wheels that are 5.25-4.5" backspacing. You'll need at least 16's to clear the brake calipers. If I was ever going to get rid of my HMMWV wheels I'd go with these... But wheels are like food... Everyone has different tastes.
Personally I would not mess with the gearing. 4.56:1 is about perfect for 35" tires in my opinion. If you want lower RPM freeway travel swap in an overdrive transmission. A bunch of folks on the form have put in a 700R4, and there are at least a few that have put in a 4L80E. On the subject...
Poly engine mount inserts installed! We’ll see how the Summit Racing house brand holds up. A pair was about $15 cheaper than the energy suspension ones. They seem identical, but grey.
Rick’s point was taken and I pulled off the offending line today and made it fit a little better. Made the long 90 into a 70... ish degree fitting. Better, still not fantastic. Also added a pic of my weird 700R4 case.
.
The 90 and 45 are pre-bent. They are pretty close, worst one is about 3/8” away from the edge of the manifold. The hose is double wire 3,900 psi rated. We’ll see how they hold up.
The Flywheel cover is only held on by 4 bolts. The 700R4 I have in it is from 1990, and it is an oddball “K”...
Wanted to add some part numbers if anyone wants steel adapters to go into the block and to couple with the stock fitting adapter.
McMaster Carr has them. Going steel you can get a 3/8" NPT female to -8 in one fitting.
Figured out that my 4 year old AC Delco mystery import oil cooler lines are leaking enough to leave a drip where I park. Time to order up some new ones.
I had an issue with DIY4X about a year ago.
I ordered up a hydraulic assist cylinder mount a few years ago and it was fantastic. Used it on my buddies 1008. Fast forward about a year ago - I order up a second one. The pic on the website was identical to the one I had recieved a few years...
