    Gen Carb Float Replacements?

Is this a common problem with these units? Could it have something to do with a formula change for the fuel? I'm just wondering since I have two compressors with these engines. I was thinking they would be pretty reliable, but I may have been wrong... Smitty

    Battery Dying!

If you shorted the alternator out, I'd bet the diodes are toast inside the alternator. These alternators are pretty easy to rebuild. Like everyone's saying above, have it tested and make sure they hook the ground wire of the test machine to the insulated ground terminal or it will test bad...

    need m101a1 rim/tire for spare

I would take the wheels off craigslist is I were closer, but I'm sure the cost of shipping to Florida would break the bank. Smitty

    need m101a1 rim/tire for spare

If you find a source that has a couple, let me know too. I have been looking for a while now. I'll drop you a line if I run across any wheels on my end. Smitty

The M101 trailers work well behind the CUCVs. Smitty

    Flex-Plate change.

Yes, but you need to have enough room to get a torque wrench to the bolts that go into the crank. Smitty

    WTB M1031 PTO switch

I had to order mine from Muncie Power Products. Part number 31T35108. I had to replace mine because the wires were sheared off at the sender. There really isn't much else to go wrong with these magnetic pick-up units. I just reread the post and the switch that I described above lets the...

    Front differential additive?

The 1031 does need the additive in the front. Smitty

Won a Bid at GL (!) Now What?

Where is it located? If it's up here in the Panhandle, I might be able to help you go through it before the trip. Also, be sure to ask GL about their title requirements in the state of Florida. They told me they are now required to title Florida vehicles since they are a Florida Dealer. Smitty

    Genset ground rod

It seems like one could use a Hi-Lift jack to remove the rods from the ground. I've used Hi-Lifts to pull up steel fence posts and they work great. I keep a 60" Hi-Lift in my 1031 and have found quite a few for it other than just jacking up vehicles. :) Smitty

Is there some type of lock nut for the tie rod ends to lock them in place? Smitty

    G.I.Cans!

Re: RE: G.I.Cans! I've had that problem with them over in the desert. I still like them better than the steel cans because they tend to leak less. I bought a couple to keep spare fuel in during hurricane season, but I can't seem to find anyone selling the spouts for them. I use the same 20L...

Where to buy M101A1 bow corners?

That is a deal that would be hard to beat! I paid more than that just for my corners. I ended up cutting the wood out of pine since I couldn't come up with any hardwood. I'm worried that they are going to snap the first time I take it down the road.... Smitty

    Contact Maintenance......GEEZ....

There should be a schematic on the door that provides the layout of the electrical components for operating the generator. If you don't have it I can see if I can get a photo of mine that will help you out. I had two problems with mine; the magnetic pickup for the pto speed was bad and had to...

    Contact Maintenance......GEEZ....

The generator in my 1031 runs off a pto driven by the main engine. There are controllers by the generator control panel that maintain engine rpm to provide the correct electrical output. (I hope these things don't ever go out, because they sure look expensive!) You shouldn't have any problem...

    Contact Maintenance......GEEZ....

For those that are just buying these for the drivetrain... Please keep me in mind if you have a box off one of these laying around. I just had a fire truck back into the rear of mine the other day. There wasn't much damage, but the left rear door was hit right on the hinge and bent it in...

    Contact Maintenance......GEEZ....

They're worth what the person is willing to pay... I paid more than that for mine, but mine was in pretty good shape and still had a lot of the tools and equipment with it. I put over 12,000 miles on it last year and it doesn't give me much trouble (except that the throttle shaft seals have...
