The CUCV-wiki is a very helpful area of SS for answering generic CUCV questions.

CUCV's were made from 1983-1987 (83 and 87 models are rare). They are all based on the 1984 model year. They did not receive newer parts year-to-year the...
I tend to stay away from Fram filters. They use cardboard endcaps, cheap weak bypass springs, and they use inferior filtering elements.
I use Wix or Napa Gold (made by Wix) filters. ACDelco filters are pretty good, but the ones that fit the 6.2 diesel have less oil capacity than most other filters.
If you're gonna buy from O'Reilly's...they almost always have gallons of Delo 400 15w40 or Mobil Delvac 15w40 on sale in the $11-12 range. I usually buy which ever of those two oils are on sale and a Wix oil filter.
I don't have any 1st hand experience with the Mystik but I've heard it's a...
If you were to do it, you would need some support behind the sheet metal, like large washers or a plate. There would be a lot of twisting force on that area since the cans are about 2 feet tall, so you would probably need something to support the top. I can't think of an easy way to complete...
Glow plugs heat up to close to 1500°F ether's ignition point is about 300°F. The ether will ignite explosively and uncontrollably when it hits the glow plugs.
On the IDI 6.2- All the glow plugs are hot at the same time, but the cylinders are all on different stages of their cycle. So you can...
It should work. I don't know for sure if it will be a direct bolt in, but you can make almost anything work. You might have to drill an extra hole or two or change sliders/rails. I put a 60/40 split bench from an early 90's Silverado in my 1009 with minimal mods. Other guys have have put 2000+...
There will still be enough room on the tranny hump. Civi Blazers had the sm465 as an option and there is a spot for it on the floor.
I'd love a manual in my 1009 for sure. I wish more vehicles came with stick.
It's a few miles from Deer Sh*ts, WI
To prarie, it very well could just be the cold. The trans fluid gets thicker, the seals and other rubber bits, and lines get less pliable or could crack easily, moving parts become harder to move. A little moisture could have frozen in one of the...
Nice looking truck. Looks great with the lift and tires.
On an unrelated note, my great-great grandpa built and ran the Lehner's Corner tavern/general store in Leroy. I think it's Kollmans Korner supper club now.
Welcome to the site. You wont find too many answers here in the CUCV area. Try the "5-ton and Up" section HERE: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/forumdisplay.php?43-5-ton-and-up
But congrats on the new vehicle!
The previous owner put an 88+ pump and reservoir in my 1009. It has worked well. Far more pressure than the stock 80's C/K pumps.
About 2 months ago, my nozzles were completely gummed up with crud (no fluid would come out of either side). I took them off and pried the nozzles open a little bit...
x2 on the General Grabbers, I've had experience with them in snow a non-cucv. They handle very well in heavier snows too. 6-10 inches, barely used 4wd and barely spun the tires. They are fairly cheap too, cheaper than most comparable All-Terrain/Mud Tires. The AT2 are also studdable.
I don't...
A lot of guys use Group 31 or Group 65. Group 78's can also work. You can make just about anything fit with a little massaging.
The build quality and specs of the battery is the major difference. I would look for batteries around 850 CCA or above. Interstates are very good, but can be a little...
Nice work, that's essentially how the OTC brand is made, but the nut has an actual hinge on it, and it's made out of cheap cast metal. If it was made with a stronger grade nut then it would work just like the one you made.
I had no interest in swiping it out from under you. I meant if it was near Eau Claire I'd be willing to check it out for you in person, make sure it's worth the long trip. I don't have money to be buying much of anything let alone another CUCV. :-D
That's a sweet Ford by the way.
I agree with HW. I've had a bottle of oil or fuel treatment fall over and leak or seep a little bit behind the seat of pickups. Where abouts in Wisconsin are you? And where is the 1008 located?
I have a VRC-53. The VRC-53 is the: PRC-25 (w/ backpack), AM-2060, MT-1029 base, headset and handset, and the various power cables. Lookin to get $600.
