If the truck is gonna go up into the mountains or spend time high above sea level, you will definitely need a turbocharger. High altitudes are a naturally aspirated diesel's worst enemy. Engines lose 4-5hp for every 1000 feet above sea level. Salt Lake City's elevation is around 4000 ft?? So...
My bad   I didn't do my research.
Also, I meant nothing negative about the no reply thing. Just that epicwell could have searched out your build thread and gotten the same info, instead of asking and waiting for a response from you.
Thank you for your service, and your response.
Don't buy the ones on ebay. Those OTC brand ones are total crap. I bought a set, and it didn't even last long enough to get one GP out. Fortunately I got a refund.
The ones from jjandaracing.com are really nice products, unfortunately they tend to be out-of-stock quite often. PMD cable which is...
You probably wont get a response from cjtroutt. This thread is closing in on 4 years old, and he hasn't posted in over a year.
But here is his Cummins swap thread: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?51987-CUCV-M1028A2-5-9L-Cummins-install&highlight=
He has no lift, and dana 61...
K9vic is not the guy in the video. He is just posting the videos. The guy who makes the videos, Fred, used to be a member on SS (Profile name: fcfred).
And the engine he puts in the CUCV is the supercharged 6.2L, Corvette-based engine, from the Cadillac CTS-V. It is factory rated at 556hp/551...
Have you checked the CDR valve? If that plugs up it can increase crankcase pressure and cause oil leaks. But if it's been plugged up or leaking for a long time, changing or cleaning the CDR, might not solve anything.
How much would it cost to reseal the engine? vs. What would it cost to swap...
Sounds like you need lower gears in the diff's if you wanna get up that hill without switching to low-range. The lower gearing in 1st in the 700r4 or NV4500 probably wont net you the results you're looking for without further modifications, and it would be a more expensive way of going about it...
Yeah what they said. The TH400 are durable trannys and with 3.08 gears and 33's you will be running fairly low rpms at 65-70mph in stock form anyways.
The overdrive in the 4500 and 700r4 mixed with 3.08's and 33's, will give you very low rpms on the highway... around 1400rpm. You'll will have to...
For road tires, you would be better off switching to 16" rims. Far more options (and cheaper too). Falken Wildpeak AT have sizes up to around 36" (325/80R16) and have a pretty mild tread design. And there are plenty of less aggressive modern tires in 315/75R16 sizes (34.5") on tirerack.com at...
Haha, No problem. I'm constantly looking around on Wis CL (just to window shop). If I had the $$$ I would've bought that truck, so I figured I'd let you know seeing as it was in the Door County area, and already had some of the mods you were looking to do.
Did you/your dad drive it home, and...
Nice buy! I'm glad you got yourself a CUCV. I saw that one on CL too. $3250 is a really good deal...especially considering there's a faded and rusty 1008 with torn up interior in Illinois listed at $7500, and another unrestored one in Manitowoc for $5k.
Is it the 1009 for sale in Shawano on craigslist? The ad does say 16.5 tires. You can't really tell what size they are in the pics, but they look like stock 1009 rims and tires. If that is the one, it looks like a really nice 1009.
How open are you to a pickup ( M1008 )? There was a really nice...
Oh, I see what you were getting at. The narrower the tire, the less friction there is on the road, so the better the fuel economy. Diameter-wise: going from a 30" tire to 33" will net you a little better fuel economy on the highway, but slightly worse in stop-and-go traffic.
What kind of stuff...
Falken Wildpeak A/T, Firestone Destination A/T, Kumho Road Venture A/T, and Yokohama Geolander A/T have good tread for on-road driving, but can handle some offroad too. So they would behave well on the roads and offer the better MPG's.
BFG All-Terrain T/A KO tires have a good reputation, and...
I would suggest using the search function. This topic has been covered dozens of times.
But the general consensus is that 33" tires will fit without a lift, but minor trimming might be needed depending how worn the springs are, how wide the tires are, and the backspacing of the rims.
