My LMTV went to work the other day...

Thought you guys might enjoy some photos of my 1078 getting used. Hauled 10k lbs of firewood out of 3' of soft snow... Gotta love CTIS! The truck handles 10k grand in the bed beautifully. did 50 miles at hwy speed, truck settled in and made it happen. Scale weight was 27k with three adults...

    M1078 LMTV planetary hub setup

Thanks for creating this thread Steve, its very helpful! If ever there was a sticky worthy thread, id think this was it. seems every one of these trucks ive seen has a noisy hub.

    FMTV Highway Speed

Darrell, I will be doing the same job in a few weeks, wanna make a day (or two) of it?

    FMTV Highway Speed

...which is why I was so eager to do business with him.

    FMTV Highway Speed

Think again. Bryce dicked me around for three months giving different prices every time I talked to him. final call was $2200 plus $900 shipped to about 1000 miles away from where I needed them. Ill cut new gears out of billet titanium with a pocket knife before I ever do business with that guy.

Axle Shaft removal for towing FMTV

I have, I would definitely choose that over dealing with the shafts. To each his own I suppose.

Axle Shaft removal for towing FMTV

dumb question here, but why pull the axleshafts? Seems a messy and unnecessary job when the drivelines could just be popped off at the axles and tied up. clean and fast.

    Frame question??

That is interesting. perhaps a custom bed is the way to go then. I am more partial to that anyway given the features I want.

    Frame question??

I read that thread. sound like a lot of self proclaimed experts from the school of "it came that way so its the best". I wonder how the rest of the Medium-Heavy duty trucks ever get down the road ok without an 8" stack on top of the 12" frame rail. The argument that it needs to be there for...

    Frame question??

interesting thread, and one I will be watching. I have a 1078 and plan on either lowering the original bed, or removing it completely and replacing it with a custom bed to achieve a lower bed height. I believe the extra channel is there simply to add clearance for tires and other misc add-ons.

    Towing LMTV via Ibis bar

Thats disappointing, those Ibis bars look like such nice pieces of equipment too. anyone have pointers on where to find the square tube bar?

How much have you hauled on your LMTV?

Absolutely, and this bed is a looong ways up! I am pulling the bed in favor of a conventional flatbed, It should sit 8-10" lower than the dropside bed.

How much have you hauled on your LMTV?

I dont move too many pallets of artillary shells, but i do think there is a place for the 1078 in the civ world other than a parade ornament. Singly, each of the trucks components are rated for insane capacities. Combined and under mil contract, the truck is de-rated. Obviously to keep it...

How much have you hauled on your LMTV?

That is true. I may change out springs to better suit my needs. My 1078 ownerrship came from the need for a medium duty that can haul 10-12k, air brakes, and durable on rough road. With the proper springs and gearing, i think this is the ideal truck.

How much have you hauled on your LMTV?

Thats crazy. Seems to me this should be able to haul more than my one ton ford.

How much have you hauled on your LMTV?

Like on a towbar? Any idea what weight it takes to set the truck on the bumpstops?

How much have you hauled on your LMTV?

The payload caps are crazy. Looking at how this is built compared to my international medium duty (which hauls 15k easily) it seems like this thing could easily handle the 20k that the MV/Ts are rated for.

How much have you hauled on your LMTV?

So, how much? The 2.27 ton rating on my 1078 Seems laughable.
