The M818 has a stupid mess of rubber hoses at the tank selector valve. I have 2 of them, and they both needed to have these hoses switched out. Big Big difference in performance. Certainly less technical than IP tuneups, but a necessary starting point. If the 5 ton cargo has the 2 tanks and...
Change the first filter! Motor dieing out when running means lack of fuel more often than not.
Once the truck starts the only thing important that the lift pump could be doing is compensating for an air leak or helping push fuel through a bad filter so the IP can pull it home.
It's possible that low compression is the problem. How is the power when she's going down the road? A solution to hard starting in the colder conditions is to live with it if the truck performs well after its' going. A little shot of ether or some quality time with a block heater will do the...
I would love to buy one. I've checked around and can't find one, so I'm starting to think about other ways to get it done. But I did just post a wanted add in the classified.
My MEP stopped pumping fuel at the wrong time during a recent outage. Got it running by switching the lines over to the aux pump. I guess both of them are fubar. But to the point--I have Facet model # 40 128E pumps, and am getting them from NAPA. NAPA # P74016. $53 and change.
I need to come up with a power converter for my MKT MBUs. I'll have the harness(thanks Mike) but I will still need to convert 110 to 24v. I don't see a need for the slave cable stuff as I plan to run a quite little honda gen set if no shore power is available. Ideas appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom
Yes, it's right next to the oil pressure sending unit. To the right about an inch and a half. This is almost up to the firewall, above the starter, and to the left of the starter relay. Take off the air filter and you won't have to go by braille.
I'm with Bruce all the way on having it shipped home. I would do it that way without even thinking about it. Too many things could fail or spew or seize up or fail to conduct or whatever. 10 years is a long time.

LAX--step one is change those filters. 4 years of crud and condensation could be the culprit.
Gimpy is right on--if it starts with ether that might be the way to go. Lots of trucks get started with it; lots of guys consider it taboo. But it does work.
