Will,
just curious as to any known difference between the OEM Cummins @ $73 and the NAPA match for CH48 @ $28 ? Cummins was the same price ($75) for glo plugs for the MEP002 and 003 gen sets, but you can get aftermarket ones for under $18 from GLOW PLUGS 6.
It's the cold time of the year again. Found this thread on a search for "CH48" for my 5 ton. Just wanted to report I can get it from NAPA for $28 and change.
Okay will do. But I did get the same problem from 2 different IPs, Fuel turned up down and back and forth and FDC bypassed, not bypassed and cussed at. :-D
But, I love these trucks

That's what I'm starting to suspect. When I turned it off yesterday after a test drive, the odometer was at 9999.9 miles. So I was thinking maybe it always ran like crap. Guess I'll most likely be in the market for an engine in a can.
I've been working on this truck, and need to ask for ideas from you guys. As Gimpy says, there are some "real smart cookies" here at SS.
Anyways, I put on a brand new HH, and bypassed the FDC. Still didn't want to fire up on its own (just a bit of ether needed), and lacked power. Then I put on...
Vermont doesn't issue titles for any vehicle more than 15 years old. DMV here accepts the paid in full GL receipt, credits you for the tax paid and gives you a registration. The registration can be signed to transfer to another party. Don't know if that would complicate selling out of state or not.
The best thing to do is to warm up the block. Lots of ways to accomplish this, but it really works. Air temps from cool to minus 30, a warm block will start right up. That's how we handle the tractors anyways. No ether, no cranking away on starters, no pistons asked to start when the steel is...
As a life-long starter of diesels in cold weather, rest assured that some react differently than others to cold temps. I had an old JD 2440 that needed some quality time with the block heater anything below 50 degrees. With some heat it started awesome. On a cold morning recently, (18 degrees)...
Tigerfan,
According to the DRMS Ombudsman, they have been changed to DEMIL F. Her response to me concerning this question is in this post. This is first hand information.
Tom
Thank you Chuck; well put. But remember, we do know that deuces HAVE been changed to Demil F, and the discussion is if they stay that way, get changed to something else, or back to where they were. Yes, stop chopping and wipe down your old beauties with a clean chamois.
Chief says: "Now we need to exert pressure on the DOD, via our elected represenatives and directly, to change the demil code back. "
I totally agree, so let's make sure the DOD demil program office (contact info?) hears from those who will be impacted by a code change.
M35a2 status as per DRMS
Results of my inquiry to the DRMS ombudsman:
Thank you for your recent inquiry on the status of M35A2 series trucks. Last week, Government Liquidation had some of these trucks for sale and had to remove them from bidding because the Army had recently changed their...

It just needs to be tightened. forget the tape. Take off all the lines and properly tighten it . Replace the lines with new air brake line from NAPA. Easy fix, and a good chance to get some ferrules and line for the tool box for next time.
I've used both the air brake line with the insert...
