What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I had to get this work done today, my Suburban needs to be running for something this weekend, so I got my spin on filter installed and fixed my power steering pump. After that it all went in fine and both parts are working great. For the filter I had to used some large nuts to gap it away from...

My CUCV spin on fuel filter mod

Pawnshop, this is your NAPA filter base in my truck as I bought some parts from Pinky. So even in death some of it will live on. I had to get these fittings and some new hose clamps. I could have used one 3/8 hose, but I had a nice hose with a near 90 bend so I connected them together as you...

Fred Williams has another CUCV - Check out the cool video from Dirt Everyday segment

Part 2, lift and big tires added. Glad I did not have those troubles with the lift on my Suburban, yuk on the rust issues. http://youtu.be/5jRUVBMa0Ow

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

No it does not have to be bare metal, just that if you sand it down to clean rust and other stuff leaving the bare metal left is fine. For where there is current paint all you need to do is scuff it down to clean up any dirt and such. The surface just needs to be rough to hold the liner without...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

When you get your M1009 done and are interested in bed lining the inside I have a guy here in Hurst that I used for that. He has lined two vehicles for me now, a M1009 and Suburban and they look great. Perfect level of the lining and no over spray. The price is not cheap compared to a bed liner...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

On my CUCV Suburban clone that is a 6.2L diesel I was trying to tighten the power steering belt and I broke it. I must of missed a bolt or it was not loose enough and when I moved he pump it broke the seal on the case where the two sides come together. So I have it out and waiting for the part...

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

Thanks Warthog and markg for the advise. I already added some diesel clean to the tank, but not fresh fuel. I think I will burn off some more fuel idling in the driveway before adding some more, gauge shows just under 1/2 tank. I have a stock pile of filters as I buy them in bulk when I get...

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

Well I took it for a drive and I am getting allot of white smoke out of the passenger side when driving and lightens up some when stopped. It goes away if I let the truck sit for a while and start it back up and it does not do it until I start driving again. I bleed all the injectors and fuel...

    M1009: Electrical issues (12v conversion)

Looks like you also have a Ford relay, that would mean that it is not an isolated ground and very bad. If you remove all the contacts and check to see if one of the small terminals grounds out to the base, it is not isolated. If it is mounted in rubber bushings and the base to screws are not...

    M1009: Electrical issues (12v conversion)

Make sure no -NEG cables are being routed to anything +POS. Looking at Pic #2 the top power buss is for +POS power and would be 12v. The smaller bottom buss is -NEG and that black -NEG cable in the front should be connected there. The incorrect red cable on the rear battery -NEG post should...

    M1009: Electrical issues (12v conversion)

Because it has A/C and one alternator and is very common conversion when adding A/C to remove the driver side Alt for the system. The problem is that most do not do it correctly and causes these problems.

    M1009: Electrical issues (12v conversion)

Is the red cable from the -Neg post the same red cable that goes to the bolt in the frame? Why did they use a red cable for that, that is visually wrong and makes for head scratching when trouble shooting. aua You need to look for any exposed installation on the wires first of all. I would pull...

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

Good to hear you will get back to it, hopefully it will not need as much TLC as mine needs. Thanks, it can be allot of fun and allot of work. Keeps me busy on the weekends and keeps me from sitting around the house. Yeah, I buy allot from LMC and always replace the plastic lights for that...

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

M1009 project. Sunday. 1. Harmonic balancer - My puller tool stripped out and was turning the engine over, so I had to use my backup puller. So now I need to buy a new one so I always have a spare. (Perfect example why I have a spare) 2. Rebuilt my one of my alternators, the other was a...

    GSP's stupid question thread!

Dude, go to the parts store and get the correct harness & plug for the voltage regulator. They should be in the help section and are about $3.00. This is what you need, http://www.aspwholesale.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=2118

Westys new m1008 with 2800 miles.

Rusty but trusty. All too common of a statement I heard living in Wisconsin. I had a few of those rusty trucks in my day and some of my friends had some really rusty K5 & Scout trucks.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Since your CUCV is 12v, did you connect the batteries in parallel for 12v?

    CUCV engine stalls on deceleration

I had the same issue on my M1009 project with stalling. I increased the idle slightly and it no longer stalls and seems to be OK. My IP on inspection with the top cover off did not show any fragments. But not to say there are other issues with the IP that cannot be seen.

    GSP's stupid question thread!

Glow plugs are 12 volt, only the starter is 24 volt. If your GP system is still connected to the resistor bank you can bypass it to the 12v buss or 12v side of the battery. This prolongs the life of the glow plugs is one is bad, or one goes bad. Search 'resistor bypass' to learn more about this.
