Wish you had posted this earlier, since I just finished painting my entire M1008 with rustoleum spray cans. I used the flat camo green. It looks good, but it's soft and I think it'll scratch off quickly. Does the FSC seem durable? How much for a spray can?
Gotta be a replacement for the mechanical fan... I was going to do this mod on my civy K5, mostly for the fun of it to open up the engine bay and maybe get back a few horsepower. I think you need to do a little custom fab to get the shrouds and stuff right.
I think the factory M1008 tires are about 33" already. I know a guy who put 34" ones on his, and as far as I know, no rubbing. Of course, you never know until you get into weird spots off road.
I don't have anything in mind just yet, but I'd probably only go with 12.5" wide ones, nothing real...
Anyone trimmed up the M1008 fenders to fit, say, 35" tires? I think you could fit 33-34" with no mods at all with the 1-ton suspension on there.
Also, thinking of off-roading, anyone remove the sway bar? I'm wondering if you could even tell it was gone with the stiff supsension anyway.
Anyone replaced the parking brake cables on an M1008? All mine are basically shot, but I'm having a hard time finding replacements - looking for a lead. The dealer can't tell me what I need unless I tear them off and bring them in for measuring or something. I can do it, but what a...
Has anyone actually jacked up their CUCV with a hi-lift before, like to change a tire? I'm wondering if it works without bending up the bumper or something? Especially on the front, it's hard to tell if the hi-lift could get a good grip on the bumper since it's rounded off.
Thanks.
I'm thinking it might be fun to have the wood side board things for my M1008. Anyone ever build a set? Or is it better to buy a used official set? Seems like shipping would be a killer. I'd be interested in pics or any other information, like what size boards to use, maybe a line drawing...
You mean from a 12V vehicle? It's not really possible I don't think. When I jumped mine, I used two 12V cars, one on each battery. If you have time, I imagine you could charge one battery and then the other with one other car. Not exactly jump starting, but still...
Make sure yours is really broken. There are three terminals on the back; the one is obviously ground, but there are two others with the orange wire connected to one and the other just hanging open. There should be a white resistor thing in between. Try connecting 12V or 24V across the unused...
Yeah, I'd probably be better off buying a whole new box for $400 or so, but I'd kind of like to keep it all military instead of having some salvaged glossy red box from a silverado or something. Besides, I just got a welder and this seemed like a good first project. I can measure...
Hey thanks, that helps a lot. Here's a pic of my replacement post and the original hinge. Heck if I can figure out how the holes in it are supposed to help. Looks to me like I'll need to extend it lower with more sheet metal and probably wrap around to the metal under the bed...
This is a long shot... I'm replacing the tailgate/bed posts - the ones the tailgate hinges mount to. Thing is, the originals have rotted away so badly that I'm not exactly sure where the hinges need to go on the new posts. The replacement posts I got have some holes, but they don't really line...
Cool, thanks. I'll give that a look. I don't have a torch on hand, but I've got drills, grinders, cutoff wheels, etc. Maybe I can pull it off. I do have a welder now... just got it last weekend. [thumbzup]
Only the mil tie downs even have that option. I think they really did that because the mil batteries are gigantic. I suppose a person could rig up some way to brace the trays to the fender without the mil tie downs, but it'd be a little work.
I have a K5 blazer in addition to the CUCV and the...
Looks good. I'm actually asking about the wheel wells though. My batt trays are fine. I want to know if a civvy wheel well is stout enough to hold the batteries in the CUCV configuration. I'd also be interested to know if civvy wheel wells have the dimples in the location of the CUCV battery...
This is kind of a tangent, but the thread is old anyway... It kind of looks like the CUCV passenger side inner fender has some extra bracing compared to a normal civilian version. Has anyone ever replaced the CUCV ones with standard replacements? I need to, but I'm afraid the batteries will...
