Progress!!!
Alu for covering seams is on! It looks good enough, but the real news is that means it can leave the nest again.
Things are progressing... While waiting for the weather to shape up enough, I got the stair control wired up from the cab as well as the stairwell, so that's a...
Hi Mark,
I understand what you're saying but I think I am OK and it's just the photo angle.
The lower radius rods are just shy of horizontal as it sits, probably within 10° or so. The system will move it forward as the suspension compresses, but I don't think as much as the 4" figure. The...
Hi Mark,
I saw a video of a 1083 going up over something and as the intermediate axle climbed up, the chassis only moved upwards half of what the wheel did, and it was climbing a large step. This let that axle get surprisingly high relative to the chassis, much higher than I ever expected it...
Those trumpets are a variable length induction system, which was pretty radical in the late 80's early 90's. The green trumpet would slide in and out of the black tube based on engine RPM and other parameters:
The sonic experience was enormous at full chat:
Your friend was right!
They are quirky but super cool. The car in the pic was my 3rd evolution- a 1979 chassis running a bridge-ported 13B with a 2 barrel Dellorto and sewer pipe-sized exhaust. That car was SUPER fun, with the pic being taken at an event in BC on Vancouver Island. Great...
Thread drift alert (apologies): That is a gorgeous backdrop!!! Takes me back to an earlier stage of my automotive addictions:
What do you do with it? Guessing by your forum handle, is it a plane motor?
Weather's been too crappy to get the angle and flat on to seal the box, but other work has been completed. Box is fully skinned, stairwell is fully panelled, cargo bay doors open remotely...... it can almost be called a camper.
With the box complete, it was time to roll it out and get another...
Got my end pieces made:
Have the angle to cap all the seams off as well. Have started working on removing all the screws which will be covered by the angle and pulling off all the protective plastic film. It's starting to really come together!
The floor covering the opening for the trans is now built and the only remaining section to build is the first ~6" up front. Over the past week I got the plywood sealed with urethane and started working on the mechanism to open the rear doors so I can panel them up. This did not go well- I...
Gang,
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
A little while ago, someone posted about using rubber snubbers to center their beadlocks. I have a persistent intermittent issue which I think may be related to the beadlocks slipping inside the tires and I wanted to duplicate the concept, but can't find the...
Yes.
Truth be told, the floor is only in temporarily. It's got a dozen screws holding it in presently. I have plumbing and wiring to run, for which I've done zero planning and I know I will need to get it stuck under there. During that process, the plywood will be removed and sealed.
I've...
I am floored with my progress!!
Thinking about a side hustle renting it out as a mobile dance hall. It's HUGE!
The punchlist before we can "use" it:
panel in the back
seal up stairwell
install accordion seal or at least the camper side cover plate over the passthrough
make a motor/trans...
Thanks everybody. To summarize:
There's no easy way to determine ATF vs motor oil
Running a mix won't hurt anything
Action Plan:
Warm it up
Check level
Add an appropriate amount of oil or ATF, either is fine
Get on with life
If I change to full ATF, use Transynd
Sound reasonable?
I'm not actually intending to change between them, just want to get it topped back up.
I don't know volume-wise how much is out. Took it around the block after doing some work and had loosened a line to the cooler. Noticed a wet driveline upon pulling back in the driveway, so I tightened it...
Problem 1: My trans needs some fluid added.
Problem 2: When I check the dipstick, it looks like it's ATF and not motor oil. I obviously don't want to add the wrong one.
Actual question to the group: Is there an easy and definitive way to determine what's in the unit?
Truth be told, I haven't...
I will be using 1.5" OD tube for the lower front stuff (windshield protection, light mounts, etc) and 2" square for the rack above the roof, I think it's .120" wall. I have no aspirations of using the turret hole and I do intend to incorporate some sort of fairing to the end result. I also...
Many months in the making, Elvis has left the building....
As promised, still a bit of paneling to close out the rear, need to get the springs installed for the subframe (just bolted together in the pics), need to cut the window/roof hatch apertures and install them, need to complete all...
TOUCHDOWN!!!!
Ran out of time to actually bolt/spring it in place, but it is down on the chassis and actually lined up with the mount plates.
There is still a bit of work to do- it's technically still on the jacks/jackstands, as well to finish the paneling, but it feels pretty sweet to get...
