Well, I fixed it... I pulled the cover off and cleaned and lubed the plastic wheel with the teeth on it. Also the Square metal thing that stops the arm from pulling the plastic gear was getting stuck.
So with a few q-tips, some WD-40 (for cleaning) and some lube oil it is all working...
In the tm9-2320-289-20.pdf http://www.the-greenes.net/cucv/tm9-2320-289-20.pdf on page 158 or 3-25 I see that the support bar that goes between the two shackle mounts has two bold holes in it. If a hitch was mounted to the bumper and the mount bolts went through the bumper and that cross bar...
that is what it felt like ... my diesel van felt the same way ... then I changed the rubber lines under the intake manifold.
Air in the lines will cause a fast idle?
Yeah, I put it in gear and I MUST hold the brake.... well above 1000rpm.... maybe like 1700-2000
It only happened once... usually it is a slower "fast idle" but this one was WAY HIGH.
I'd love to see pictures.
As far as the bolts in the holes, the trailer and hitch people should have given you this wire that is bent like a spring on one end... you fish the straight end through the hole and screw the bolt into the other... then pull the bolt through the hole... at least that...
Sorry for all the posts but I am new to the CUCV and I just got my first one.
Last night it was in the 30s and I fired the truck up. It had sat for about one day. It took a while to actually fire and when it did the fast idle was really high.
Is there a way to adjust this down?
Anyone have a detailed tear down of the rear window crank? I found the parts I need (I think) and I need to get it apart enough to replace the crank innards.
I was able to get the glass out and then I stopped as it was going to rain the next day.
Thanks

Won't that bumper hold the weight of the truck or at least half of it? Aren't the shackle used to pick up the truck with a crane?
Where are the mods chuck made? Maybe I read them but I don't recall. I thought a civy hitch would not work with the support bar that is behind the bumper and goes...
How well did/does your hitch hold up? What kinda of loads have you towed with it?
I'm looking to tow a small utility trailer or a small Mobile Scout camper.
thoughts?
