It wasn't long ago that I looked at the fans and thought "If one dies, I'll just leave it dead. If both die, so what?" As peakbagger mentioned, I keep the engine at fairly low rpms for the very most part, and combined with ambient temps that are almost always below 80 degrees, the fans have...

Well, as I recall the FLUs are rated to tow 16,000 lbs. Much more than my M1008 ever was, even when stock.

Hmm. Sounds like you wouldn't approve of pulling one with an M1008 then, which is what I normally use. And it's been shorted by 31 inches and has no bed, so not quite at 16,000 lbs. like a FLU.

I can't remember if I've ever pulled the water buffalo behind a FLU, or any of the other ex-military trailers. But I have used them for moving Class 8 trailers, with a con gear. And also for flat towing a Jeep and a John Deere Gator. Anyway, I've converted most of my bumper pull trailers to...

Like many of us, you have questionable electrical connections to deal with. I'd go through them before buying any parts. Clean the fuse holders, check all grounds, etc.

I'd be surprised if you find LEDs in there. But the basic 24 Volt bulbs should be available at NAPA, or other parts stores. Also, I'd be surprised if the bulbs already in there aren't good. The odds that both have gone out must be pretty slim.

I tried shifting into high on the splitter once, just to see what the difference was, so I' no expert on this. But if I remember correctly, the clutch interlock switch must be activated or the shift won't happen. My clutch interlock switches aren't all that dependable (obvious when starting)...

I dunno. Just did a search for "splitter" (under Unimog) and a crap load of stuff came up.

There are a few threads specific to what's (usually) the splitter. But if you read the entire "owner's" thread there probably isn't a single issue that hasn't been covered at least once.

I can get some belt screech out of one on occasion, right after starting it and especially when it's cold out. But that's with wider tires that are at low pressures. All because I've been to lazy to tighten the belt. If there's any groaning to be heard it's likely from me, after climbing up...

That is one filter I've never tried to find. None of my FLUs have enough hours/miles on them for me to have thought about a change.

Where to find a dozer blade?

Oh, they seem to be able to push dirt okay, too. Even when not using a real dozer blade.

Well, you could send in a sample for analysis. But why? If what's in there still looks good, I'd leave that as is for now. Surely there are other things on your FLU that deserves attention.

If it was never changed, it should be 10W engine oil. Which isn't exactly ideal for the application. Either drain it out and replace with a fluid of your choice, or leave well enough alone.

Well, I didn't say that it's how you're supposed to do it, but using the loader and/or outriggers is definitely the fast and easy way to do it. One of mine came with the jack, but I have no intention of using it for a SEE. Instead, find a 3/4-inch impact (supposed to come with the HMMH), as...

If it came with the loader and backhoe, that should be all you need. Except for help with putting the flat tire back up.

FLU-419 fuel question - part above filter housing

Yep. Horse graves. But they could likely identify as holes in the ground where just about anything could be disposed of.

Thanks, Mullaney, and I hope your dog proves you wrong.

FLU-419 fuel question - part above filter housing

Yeah, these horses didn't keel over, but my girlfriend knew it'd be better to put them down than to let the suffer. And they were not easy decisions for her, as she probably cares more about them than people. Well, most people.

FLU-419 fuel question - part above filter housing

It's not quite as bad as it sounds. By digging "spare graves" now, while the weather is still nice and the ground not frozen isn't bad at all. So far it has paid off and the spares haven't been needed (kinda like insurance), but we recently had to put two down in somewhat rapid succession. And...
