Michigan considers mine something other than a regular passenger vehicle because of the weight. However it doesn't really affect me much and the main difference is the characters in the plate number. You however are in that great east coast bastion of deleted text so yeah...expect to get screwed...
If the fluid in your transmission has been changed recently (say 50k miles) and/or is red(-dish) then a pan drop and filter change should be fine. That's all I do.
Now if the fluid is a brownish color or just something not red and it's been 100,000+ miles since the last change then just leave...
Random thought but is the shift linkage hooked up and adjusted correctly? I've heard of guys having trouble with that after doing a 700R4 swap.
GP's shouldn't even be used when the truck is hot. It shouldn't need them.
Definitely not a CUCV and doubtful if it's got a M number. Probably just another vehicle needed for some specific use at one time in the past.
Be interesting to see the suspension, drivetrain, and axles.
Just so you know the 9.00R16's should fit with the stock suspension. There's a fellow who posts on here occasionally in Italy with them. They're VERY uncommon here in the States though as our military never used them widely.
Airbags are popular here for load capacity adding. That way you can...
The front and rear axles in M1009's are both 10 bolts...again for the record.
The only difficulty you should have other than any normal 1 ton swap under a Blazer is that most folks find 3/4 ton 14FF's to use. They have the shock mounts and spring pads in the correct location that the 1/2...
www.ColoradoK5.com has a lot of owners of this vintage GM truck. Mainly an offroading and modification sight too. Some European members too...although I don't believe there's any from France.
You'd definitely want an OD transmission for extended periods of time over 100kph, even with the...
There was a pseudo-factory tailgate/body mounted setup in the late 70's. It was offered through dealers, not the factory, and is rather rare. It's also known for tearing the sheetmetal at the mounts even if installed correctly with the braces behind the body contact points - even with stock...
Gotcha. Same reason I'm not carrying a 38" spare in the bed of Big Ugly except on long trips.
I'd either put it on the front like you're thinking or some sort of rear bumper swing up/down or swing out setup. Still working on that for mine.
Drooling over the old GM goodness...loves the round headlights!
I like it. Would work good for stockish sized spares. Used to be very common on trucks but seems to me like it wasn't done much after the 80's. The guys who actually remember that era might know more though.
The problem would...
Definitely a possibility. These trucks are a bit crude in the stock form. Some good lift springs (BDS or Tuff Country for example or National Spring, Atlas, Deaver, etc if you have some money), various suspension and steering fixes and they drive pretty damn good.
