You can't reverse the wheels. Spacers or Dual Rear Wheel hubs solve the HMMWV rim problem.
Since you're lifting it you'd be best served by cross over steering as well. Consider a steering box brace as well.
Even with 6" of lift you could probably get 37's to rub. In fact, I'd lay money they...
33x12.5's should fit but if the suspension is sagged a bit or you flex the snot out of it they will rub. Also depends on the wheels you use. Put them on the stock 15x8's (or similar size/backspacing) they should fit as I said above. Put them on 15x10's or any size with low backspacing they...
Yeah, but then a lot of cutting would be involved to make them fit. Stockish 16.5's avoid that problem with only minor trimming being necessary.
Like I said before I'd skip the problem entirely and get some 36x12.5R16 Super Swamper TSL Radials and put them on the stock rims. Probably need...
Ah, Rhodesian. Guess I'm too used to talking to Aussies, Kiwis, and Pomgolians.
Just a heads up but www.ColoradoK5.com is another site dedicated to this sort of GM truck. Several good diesel mechs over there. There's good guys here too but we seem to be slow this morning.
Welcome to SS. Sounds like you've definitely gotten a good start on it!
Random question but did you order the 700R4 online or something or was it available locally? I know Chevy used to (still does?) sell some of their American market vehicles in South Africa.
Mine was in a '92 Blazer K1500 (the last fullsize 2 door body style after they went to IFS). Sorta just "went away" after 65k or so. By 102k when I sold the truck it was like I had an open diff. I figured it was on borrowed time.
What's that supposed to mean?:|
Again the steering stabilizer shock shouldn't do anything but assist in steering effort and absorb road impacts transmitted to the steering column. I'd advise you to replace/inspect/tighten/whatever everything else and THEN replace that shock. Replacing...
There was fender trimming to make them work. Not a lot though.
The HMMWV tires are 16.5's and the CUCV rims are 16". You need either stock GM 16.5's or Dodge 16.5's from older 70's era trucks to make it work. HMMMWV rims will bolt onto these trucks but they have about 2" too much backspacing...
As hobie said the stock 3.08 gears are mainly meant for highway use. Putting bigger tires on will effectively raise the ratio and you're heading more towards land speed racer than offroader at that point. It'd still drive and go...it'd just struggle to get up to speed and maintain speed.
The...
The steering stabilizer shouldn't do anything other than mask a problem that's already there. In fact, remove it and drive the truck. See if the problem got worse.
Have a tire shop check to see if the tires are still round.
When I first got Big Ugly it had 36" HMMWV bias plies on it. Got deathwobble like you wouldn't believe. Wife was afraid of it. Tires were horribly out of round. I put the Michelin radials I have on it now on and whalla, problem...
Yep, there are plenty of kits. However few have all the parts and it's generally cheaper to just buy the kits that have the non-parts store parts and then buy the rest at the parts store locally. TSM and Stainless Steel Brake are the big names out there but there's numerous places making the...
