Hello SS,
I'm looking to put larger tires and wheels on the new M813. I have been told the 14x20 super singles will be too soft for my intended use, too much side wall flex (per John Winslow). Plans are to use the 5 ton to tow our track loader on an equipment trailer (approx 25,000 lbs, yes I...
loaded M105s
Do you mean like this?
The Guy at Chambersburg loaded my M105 in the back of the M813 we were picking up. I called to ask and make sure it was OK first. They used a fork lift to load the trailer, just fit in the 14' bed, plan on it sticking out the back of your 12'
Chambersburg
Check with the site manager (Mike) about a local towing company. He once told me that some of the out of town dealers have a local company tow their trucks to the tow companies location in Chambersburg. That way the dealers can pick up the vehicles at their convenience.
Hope this...
For those of you who like steam and coal smoke this is a great show! Always a few military vehicles on display mixed in with the antique trucks.
I'll be there on Saturday with the M215 Dump.

Loaded M105
Hello Jeff,
I'll check the wheels and drive train for date stamps.
They loaded the M105 with a fork lift, kind of scary to watch. They picked the trailer up by the tongue, slid the lunette ring under the front of the fork lift and the forks under the frame, lifted it easily.
I was...
M813
The data plate shows this truck as a XM813 and it is not a drop side (A1) so it is an early production, D. Doyle's book states production started in 1970
Were else could I find clues of the actual production date?
Thanks, Karl
Drove our new M813 home from Chambersburg today, all went well 165 miles / 4 hr. Only real problem was the wipers crapped out, rained as usual and no emergency brake. Nice surprise was found in the locked tool box, also included but not shown was a fire extinguisher and a glad hand tire...
M215 part
Is this what you are looking for? Took this picture of the spare GMC 302 I have in the shop for our M215. Check Memphis Equip. in PA they just scrapped a pile of this motors, may have some small stuff remaining.
Hope this helps, Karl
Post some pictures of your M215 project, would...
Hello SS,
Tomorrow we will be attempting to drive the new M813 home, quick question about the breather location on the transfer case. When checking the fuilds I noticed the transfer case was under pressure when removing the fill plug. Don't have time to check for the breather plus the truck was...
VA 5 ton
I looked at this truck, very rough shape. GSA listed this truck as running, the guy at the GSA sight stated it runs if push started. What I found interesting was the very large hole through the radiator, maybe caused by a fork lift. The cooling system was bone dry and I had a very...
Cummins 250?
Hello SS,
Can you start / run the 5 tonners with the NHC 250 on only two batteries in warm climates? I'm waiting to purchase one from GL and was wondering if the purchase of four batteries was necessary.
Thanks, Karl
Beach driving
I have always wanted to drive one of our deuces on the beach! NC outer banks are only 5-6 hrs away, Knots Island NC is even closer. As a kid / teen we used to drive on a beach in Ohio near Ashtabula called Walnut Beach on Lake Erie. The sand was hard packed and smooth. My first...
sand blaster
Hello SS.
I have had good success using Black Beauty through our cheapy pressure blaster. Works well and no health problems like sand / silica, usually runs about $15-18 per 100lbs. The Black Beauty can be reused 2-3 times after screening, does not to wear out the ceramic nozzles...
Dump pump
Hello pa.rich,
I still have the extra pump and control valve for my XM215, plan to keep it as a spare. Sam Winer had one on their shelf several years ago ($500 ?). Top Kick MV Musem in WV has a M215 in their back lot as well as the MV dealer in Hazelton Pa (Yumala?), don't know if...
M215 Carb
Hello Eric,
Let me know what parts you need, I have several parts carbs and an extra linkage unit that bolts to the engine.
Check seller ( linhoff1) on Ebay sells carb rebuild kits for your Holly cheap every couple weeks (listed as Reo carb kits, but same thing), I purchased one for...
Holly carb
Hello Eric,
When I installed a NOS carb on my GMC it went to wide open when first started. Figured out the the linkage on the carb was backwards, holding the butterfly valve wide open. This carb is the same one used on the M35 gasser, but the linkage is reversed.
Don't know if this...
Hello SS,
Just picked up an extra hydromatic tranny for the GMC, has anyone done a rebuild on one of these things? The seller claimed it to be a good take out, figure I'd do a complete rebuild and keep it as a spare.
I have changed out one of these trannys twice, but have never torn into the...
Hello SS,
It is time to trade up the M35A2 to a 5 ton, but which one? Currently we are using the deuce to hall the dozer around and clearly need more truck. I have ruled out a 5 tonner with the LDS465 but I'm not sure about the Mack or Cummins.
The Mack ENDT-673 is rated @ 211 hp / 610 lbs-ft...
GL adds
Last year GL sold a M109 shop van located at Chambersburg Pa. add stated "vehicle runs", as usual the bidding went high. I can only imagine the winning bidders plans to drive his new prize home. This plan would have a changed when they arrived and discovered the very large 6-9" hole...
M211 artical
Steve Turchet's articals are the first I read when the mailman delivers my copy of MVM. I really enjoy his writing style and appreciate his mechanical knowledge. I have always thought the GMC M211 was a great vehicle, well engineered but under appreciated.
One detail I wanted to...
