I don't know, I think it would be cheaper and easier, either finding one off of something in the junkyard and making it fit. Or just making a hole bumper from scratch. The one in the OP's pics looks simple at first glance, but if you really look at it, it's pretty complex. Plates shaped to bolt...
Well you clearly have welding skills if your considering making this carrier. So what's so scary about drilling holes in the body? If you change your mind you can just weld them up again.
These are old mechanical diesels. They will run on anything ending in the word "oil". I've tried it myself just to see. So far a gallon of vegetable oil, and I run 2 cycle oil every other tank. The vegi oil smelled a little funny, but actually ran stronger with slightly better fuel economy. The...
I don't have a picture at the moment. But they sent me a new pipe, which I never got around to installing. I just put the flat side of the u-bolt against the frame with a piece of one of the rubber hanger from the kit between the frame and the u-bolt. Theoretically you and I could cut a slice in...
M1028 Banks sidewinder turbo, Gear vendors O.D....(1) Banks still makes the kit, but it's only made to order. (2) If I remember correctly it took them 3 or more weeks to get the kit to my doorstep. (3) it was cheaper to order directly from them vs summit (or anyone else). (4) You DO NOT adjust...
installed new upper and lower trans mounts today. FYI the new lower ones didn't have the steel plate molded into them, so I had to cut them out of the old mounts & install them on the new ones.
Power steering pump turned into a sprinkler, soo I installed a new one. Got a pretty good deal from Advanced. They price matched rock auto, so that was pretty cool..
Yeah this was a 2-1/2" shackle flip, which turns out to be more like 3-1/2". I articulated the rear suspension to it's full extent and took some measurements, This clears buy 1". The only thing that doesn't work is the spare tire won't fit under the truck anymore. But this is a much better spot...
So after another 600 mile trip I found a puddle of fuel under the truck this morning. It's coming from the throttle linkage. Is there an easy fix I hope? I assume there is some sort of rubber grommet? can this be replaced in the truck?
Well you can make it into one. I find the original mounts to be cumbersome. The magazine sticks out and is easily knocked into when your entering & exiting the vehicle.
Well if that's the case I'd throw a trans cooler on it. Their cheap and easy to do. Here's the one I installed on my M1028... https://www.etrailer.com/Transmission-Coolers/Chevrolet/C%2FK+Series+Pickup/1984/D13503.html?vehicleid=1984745953
I was unaware these transmissions had vent holes? I looked quick under mine and didn't see one? Anyway I agree, the combination of a clogged vent & a severe angle would push it out.
HUMMM? my M1028 has the old school style with the figure loop on it. I wonder if my trans, or just the dipstick has bin replaced? The trans & transfer case definitely looked like undisturbed originals to the truck.
What about a dipstick that latches and seals tight? Most every modern car I can think of, has one of those dipsticks with the rubber plug & yellow latch.
