I will paint when off, then using a good socket cover the bolt or nut with a piece of wax paper or plastic to protect it, sometimes the socket won't fit. Either way touch up is often required.
:ditto: on the the Ramps also tractor supply, power eq. shops. They are the same ones used to load lawn tractors. As Doghead suggested a winch. We use one of the $50.00 HF remote controled ones, once you get a good one it works well but went thru 5 to finally get a good one. Luckly HF is only 10...

There are a few threads about replacing the harmonic balancer. Seeing that you will have the front of the engine apart it would be a good time to do it.
I would guess that its for a cucv. The original one was plastic, should be able to find one from a scrap yard or there are a few on here that are being parted out.

I will put my foot on it and let it return slowly. Reason being is that if you have mud, snow, grit on your boot and it transfers to the pedal you will have a good shot of wearing it.
You should consider replacing the starter relay under the dash. Search out the "Doghead starter relay modification". It should be a sticky in the cucv forum.
