My 85 1009 shows 99,000 miles but I would guess 199,000.My 86 1009 shows 43,000 miles and I think its fairly close to that.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Gave my 70 yr old Dad a ride into town in my 86 1009, to pay some bills on the way home he says when does this thing hit 3rd gear? I told him we were in third gear in town.He was impressed on how it pulled from 30mph-60mph in third, and told me I should get an OD trans. Thanks Dad.This 1009 was...

IL - M1009 Will Not Start

Its been getting pretty cold these past few years.I would advise on keeping it 24v,run your 12v supply from front batt.with a heavier gauge cable to a 140amp circuit breaker that way it still has a 12v shut off that wont effect rest of system.I think if you search cucv 140a circuit breaker you...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Ill bet you never have to go thru that pain again!I check my GPs every oil change now.I learned because this is my second 1009.Its also a really good idea to do a compression check when changing the GPs,if you weren't 4 hrs away Id help you out.Maybe a local diesel mech.has a gauge to lend.

    Cold Advance issues

    On my 86 1009,24v starter,GP resistor bypass,manual only 60g GPs.I glow 15-20 seconds when below 30 degrees,fires right up.If its parked for more than 2 hrs and below 75 out I glow it for 5-10 seconds and fires right up.If I don't glow when below 75 it cranks maybe 5-7 seconds.This 1009s...

New Glow Plugs Installed; Starts Worse Than Ever

No offense to anyone, but this is a good example of why I did the GP resistor bypass, manual GP switch and run the 60g plugs. On my first 1009 the resistor ate 8 new GPs in a week. Now I know my GPs are getting 12v.
