broken dash plastic that holds transmission selector cable.

I did a similar fix as TGP noted, but instead of the thimble I used a small tie wrap hanging done from the screw. So the shifter cable was sliding inside the tie wrap loop. Do not know about long term as I sold that truck, but worked for the few hundred miles I had it.

Fred Williams has another CUCV - Check out the cool video from Dirt Everyday segment

Some of you know Fred Williams or fcfred here ons SS, he had his M1008 stolen back in 2010. A few days ago on his Dirt Everyday show from Motor Trend on YouTube he posted a video about a M1008 he got. The video shows him trying to get it started and all the attempts to get it running. Pretty...

    CUCV 14 bolt question

I would guess no, the CUCV for all years should be the same mechanical parts wise as a 1984 during the 1984 to 1987 year run. However, there are some differences like the 86+ M1009 seat brackets and floor pan compared to the 84 & 85.

In need of a CUCV non-gear reduction starter.

Just to clear this up, the DD bracket is not available anymore. The GR bracket can be had at the noted parts store. Either bracket can be home fabricated. Here is a post by Warthog that has excellent details on the differences in starters and brackets...

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

Well my flywheel is really bad after taking the starter out. Before I took it out I turned the engine manually from where it was spinning and started, so that told me it had to have bad teeth. aua Not sure if I am going to tackle this one myself, or have my mechanic do it. What I really need to...

    GSP's stupid question thread!

True, My current one they did not know about the service light switch and cut the headlight harness trying to figure out why there where not headlights. The switch was off and after I replaced everything flipped the SL switch on and pull the headlight switch and everything works.

Home made direct drive starter bracket using angle iron - How to.

Here are pictures of the first one I made, I think the latest one turned out nicer looking. But these pictures give you all a better idea of the angles it matches. My first one I made installed on my previous M1009. Last picture is the OEM from my M1031 that I used as a map for making...

Home made direct drive starter bracket using angle iron - How to.

The M1009 I am working on I found that the started bracket was missing for the OEM direct drive starter. So yet again I had to make one as they do not exist anymore and will see if that helps before I pull out the starter. Since this comes up sometimes I decided to make a separate post on how to...

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

I did not take the starter out, but the bracket is missing and that may be part of the issue. So yet again I had to make one as they do not exist anymore and will see if that helps before I pull out the starter. Simple with welder, grinder and drill. Take a angle iron and cut it to length...

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

Yeah I got the one on CL and drove 120 miles to get it in the Suburban. Guy was real cool to hold it for me as I told him where I was and that I could not get it until Friday or the weekend. I knew of them, but have never seen one in person before until now. There was a Chalet for sale here...

What about one of those K5 pickup conversion kits? That would be so cool, but only if I could find one...  :naner::jumpin::carnac::naner:

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

It was not butchered by the Sheriff office expect the mechanics cutting the headlight switch harness. Excpet for the decals, I saw no sign of a light bar on it or any holes for one. Not even sure what they may have used it for, but it seemed to only have a console in it and no emergency...

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

Pictures added. Contacts cleaned DH realy Fix turn signals, I think it was a ball of dirt under the lever that was not making left work. Cleaned out all the glass & dirt. Engine cleaned. I checked the relay and it is isolated ground. Alternators, driver side looks new or rebuilt.

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

Thanks for the advise, I was planning on checking that when I was down there. Driver side alternator is either newer or rebuilt as it has a tag on it from their mechanics, but did not see anything on passenger side. The charging is good when I checked with my volt meter and many of the CUCV I...

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

Thanks, I always try to solder and heat shrink where I can, but I do sometimes use connectors. I was going to start a build thread, but I guess I might as well just use this one and keep it updated. This helps to document what was done if I ever decide to sell it and shows other SS members...

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

Nothing wrong with the headlight and parking lights after I installed the new plug and switch. The turn signals were also fine, just put the 552 flasher back in that was missing. So looks like they did not know about the service light switch and parked it because they could not figure it out...

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

Yeah, I saw your bid and did not realize it was a SS member until you mentioned it here. I have a rear glass on the way, so that will wrap up the glass issue. Those recycled batteries are great, I can get two of them for the price of one new. I have about eight 6-lug M1009 wheels, 5 of them are...

    Harmonic Balancer

Your welcome for the link, but that is not my post and I never said to use a 2x4 to put the balancer back on. In fact I said I would NOT do it and why I made the tool I posted a picture of to install the balancer without hammering it on.

    Harmonic Balancer

Have you tried this method to remove the bolt? http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?44202-Check-your-balencer&p=572316&viewfull=1#post572316 I replace the balancer on all of the CUCV trucks I restore, I am about to change out a 5th balancer and this is how I always remove and tighten the...
