There is a crossover pipe that goes from the factory driver's side manifold to the pass side Banks manifold. You have to have it to get exhaust from both banks of the engine to drive the turbo. Then there is the single exhaust that runs from the turbo out to the rear of the truck. I haven't seen...
BTW, I should add this is based on an unloaded truck on relatively flat grond. The turbo increases mileage on hilly roads or if loaded due to the engine not having to be worked near as hard.
They do claim a gain, but almost anybody that has them say they've never really seen an increase in mileage. The turbo creates an exhaust restriction and you're turning up the amount of fuel coming from the IP, but the increased efficiency evens it out pretty decently. Most people claim the...
There are 2 different kits from Milemarker. P/N 602 is 5 lug and P/N 603 is the 8 lug setup. You're right though, the article shows a 5 lug and I should have noted that.
I'm averaging 21 mpg with my M1009. That's mixed driving, but more in town than highway. It is the best all around daily driver I've ever had in terms of economy, utility, seats for all my young'uns, and cool factor.;)
I'm not a big AutoZone fan by any means, but I'd go there and ask for a Robertshaw 370 series thermostat. They are the best I've found, and they work well in these and any diesel engines. The difference is instead the normal of the flat disc-type t-stat, they have a skirt that moves up and down...
Yeah, the full time 4X4 system does make them a little hoggish and it saps power as well. It is easily to change them over, but the M880's D44 front axle doesn't have normal hubs, so the kit repplaces them, and it makes it pricier than doing a Chevy or Ford. The kit to do it is $500, but...
Another good way of a gaining a bunch of low end torque would be building a stroker. The one below is around $1,500, and comes with a new nodular iron crank (stronger than stock), forged I beam rods, and forged dished or flattop pistons. It increases it to 349 cu in. If you have that along with...
If you were revving it high enough out of gear to see smoke, you were revving pretty hard. These engines don't smoke much, even a heavy load. A 6.2 is not engine to have if want to "roll coal" as they say...
No, you can bore it .060" safely, but .030" would most likely be all it would need if it has never been bored before.
Oh, the 318 can easily be made to stronger than a stock 350. 318's are great engines and respond well to moderate power mods. Swapping to a part time 4X4 frees up a bunch of...
