Hummer rims & tires on my Cucv ????

I had my spare wheel out this weekend to press some new studs into it and I took some photos. I just wanted to show what it looks like when you run 2" spacers. I re-centered my wheels with flat centers in as far as they can go and it is equivalent to me running 2.25" spacers and stock HMMWV...

M1008 rear axle from long term storage

I would not pull out the carrier, if you do you should probably re-check pattern and backlash. There are no spider gears. It has a Detroit locker. There isn't much to clean up. If you do pull the case and split it apart you should follow the Detroit instructions and install the running...

M1008 rear axle from long term storage

The red paint is most likely GE Glyptal paint. It was sometimes used on the inside of castings. I'd pull out the TM 9-2320-289-34 and read section 6-15. Personally I would remove the entire pinion assembly and just wipe it down with solvent. The pinion seal is a bit of a pain to change...

    Surplus Fluke 27/FM Multimeters

Your 77 is a good meter, it just isn't true RMS. It will be accurate on DC, and sinusoidal AC, but square wave and rectified DC will cause it to not be accurate... like up to 40% off. Personally if I owned a 77, not having true RMS would not be a deal breaker for me.

    Surplus Fluke 27/FM Multimeters

Another good multimeter is the fluke 16 or 116. They are also true RMS, are not mega bucks and are nearly idiot proof. I like them because they can measure temperature (which is handy) and capacitance. The only feature they don't have is ac or dc current. Probably the best feature is that...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Looking good... you did murder your stock cast spring plates though. Ruffstuff makes a nice set out of 1/2" steel plate that are reasonably priced. Just have to drill a hole for the offset spring pack bolt. You decide if you are going to go high steer or high steer with hydraulic assist?

    CUCV Auto vs Manual Trans

I have two friends that both run around in 6.2 powered blazers with a SM465, 203/205 doubler and 5.13:1 locked axles with 40" tires. They both beat the daylights out of their rigs and all I have to say is that you won't break that gearbox. With a Ranger overdrive I think it would be a pretty...

700r4 For M1008 Conversion Parts List

To each their own, but I really think the swap is worth the trouble. It isn't like an axle re-gear is an easy or cheap job. Plus you will get a fresh transmission out of it too. The TV brackets can be had on ebay, or from members on the forum. I think that off the line performance towing...

700r4 For M1008 Conversion Parts List

Personally I found the diesel governor to shift too early. I'd do a diesel gov on a M1009 and a V8 gas governor on anything with 4.56 gears...m1008 etc. I have a simple one wire 4th gear lockup setup, and I agree that the throttle switch would be a nice upgrade. Normally I just drive around in...

    1998 6.5/4l80E swap..

I'd consider it. Like warthog said the transfer case won't work (it is a drivers side drop and you need a passenger side drop). The 4L80e and the turbo 6.5 would be nice. I have no idea if the stock computer could somehow be rigged up to control the transmission, you may want to budget for a...

2nd what cucvrus says. Pressure testing is the way to go. Also I have seen a crossover crack, so be careful with your inspection.

700r4 For M1008 Conversion Parts List

Personally I despise that book. I swear that the 5 star reviews on Amazon of that book are all from spoof accounts setup by the publisher or author in the past year. I own that book, it is not a technical manual of any sort. It does not have a SINGLE exploded diagram in it, not a one! It is...

700r4 For M1008 Conversion Parts List

Sharecropper pretty much nailed it. I highly suggest you search your local pick-n-pull or equivalent self serve wrecking yard to track down a diesel blazer, pickup or suburban to harvest the 700r4 TV cable bracket out of. They seem to fetch over $100 on eBay these days. Other things to...

    my new addiction M1010 build

87J, Cool project! I think the 3.73 gears will be good match for a Cummins 6BT swap, especially if you are sticking with a non-OD transmission. Most of those first generation Dodge Cummins pickups had the goofy Dana 61 axles which had the pinion offset from the carrier to allow numerical lower...

Kinda got carried away..... M1028 rebuild

The 700R4 is a glorious upgrade (as long as it is built correctly). I love mine behind a stock 6.5. It really helps out with crawl ratio. For example, take a pickup with a TH400 or a 4L80E and a NP205. Tough as nails, but a horrible crawl ratio. The 4L80E and TH400 both have a 2.48:1...

Kinda got carried away..... M1028 rebuild

Go big. That NP 205 does not have a very deep low range. Might as well build up a 203/205 doubler if you want to dive off the deep end. Check out what Offroad Design offers. Or you could just do the easy thing and swap out that input on your 208. It really is easy, requires no special...
