Question #1: Would you be inclined to drive your deuce more often if it had power steering?
Question #2: Does any part of the the Air-O-Matic (?) power steering system extend below the front axle (=reduce ground clearance)?
Thanks,
Here is a way to add an override switch for the headlights on the deuce.
With the relay in the ciircuit, operation will be normal when using the 3-lever light switch. If/when the light switch circuit breaker (CB) trips, the relay contact will open, but can now be overridden by manually switching...
Made another log kit delivery yesterday using the deuce. It was a light load, but I drove from VA to NC, so it is interstate commerce. I stenciled the DOT# on the side of the truck, taped the cardboard name tag on the door and was ready.
Some stats,
Fuel mix: 15 gallons of homemade biodiesel +...
During the 800 plus mile roundtrip to Aberdeen, MD, we conducted a couple of experiments.
1) Used a plywood with cut-outs to simulate the canvas winter front to keep the engine operating temp close to "normal". The coolant temp was monitored with the Fluke DVM/thermocouple and the result was...
I checked out Desert Rat's dual fuel tank project and as you know fuel milage is directly proportional to the weight of the vehicle.
Removing the spare would be an "improvement" and okay if you are running duals. Adding 300 lb of fuel would not improve the mpg's.
My deuce weighs 16,250 empty...
According to the manual, the deuce w/o a winch has its headlights in the lower location and the BO driving light in the upper.
Does anybody have a deuce with the lights arranged like that?
Did you know that the deuce and the 5-ton trucks can be rigged for airdrop?
A couple of images from FM 10-520 (2-1/2 ton) and FM 10-526 (5-ton) manuals.
There are some modifications required, such as installing lifting shackels through the bed. If your vehicle has these mysterious holes in the...
Found a picture of the 1,500 gph water purification unit mounted on a 2-1/2 ton truck. I know recovry Kenny has particular interest in these. This one does not have the eylet type front wheel hub, though.
It's from TM 5-700 "Field water supply".
A second image showing the 3,000 gph unit is...
I have collected hundreds of the PS magazines over the years and there is a lot of very useful information to be had. Most of them have very nice "center folds" (Joe's Dope sheet) which make nice computer screen savers. Here are a few samples.
This is a part of my to-do list for the deuce. It may be interesting to compare notes on this sort of thing.
1) Windshield wipers (replaced one on the last trip), need motor for passenger side.
2) More LED type lights (replaced two on the last trip)
3) Fix driver side window (hard to crank up...
Spent an hour today cleaning up the M756 truck bed.
Some of the wood in the decking was still solid and turned out to be red oak painted OD.
Some other data:
The cargo body for this 2-1/2 ton variant was manufactured as a unit and was supposed to be used with the M45 chassis truck.
This...
