oem, original equipment manufactuer, have yours rebuilt. A good shop should be able to rebuild yours for about $100.00.
Be sure that you have the support bracket on the back of the starter and replace the mounting bolts with new oem bolts. All the part #s are available on this site.
Ditto on rebuilding the oem starter. The oil leak may be from the valve cover, you will have to get in there and poke around. The screeching is probably the starter gear grinding against the flexplate. You will have to inspect all the teeth on the flexplate, if any are damaged you will have to...
Are the battery terminals wire brushed and clean and tight. Are the grounds clean and tight.
Remember boys and girls, The first rule of owing a CUCV. If its rubber replace it. If its electrical clean it.
Scuff ,prime,scuff, color. I did not prime the entire truck and where I did not I am not entirely happy with the look. I used Sherman Williams 383 green over camo and you can see the texture in a few places if you look hard.
The only reason I can think of for disconnecting a heater is because it was leaking. It is possible that the leak was small and corroded over, it may start leaking again so I would keep a connector handy to connect the two heater hoses together 3/4 to 5/8 reducer from napa about $2.00.
My 1008 keeps getting better and better. It needed work when I got it from GL and with all the info on here I 've done a lot Of Preventive maintenance. When I read a problem some one has had and how they fixed it I will try to get one step ahead of murphy and do some PM.
