As an owner of both, most of what's posted here is true but one thing not discussed. The radiators in the M39 series Mack powered are hack jobs and not nearly big enough. If you are just gonna use it for a toy, it's fine. Plan on working it hard, expect overheating problems and good luck finding...

First of, which engine do you have ? LDS ? Some of these had Mack motors. It could be a cracked head as well. I would do a pressure test and maybe pull the injectors to see which cyl. Any coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant ? You could have the antifreeze sample analyzed. is there bubbling...

There is only one proper way to test a glowplug. Take them out, make a set of small jumpers and put power to each one and look at it(don't touch the end or you will get burned). It should glow nice and hot at the TIP. if it does not glow or glows in the middle, it's junk.

I got two trucks with NHC250s in them. They both have a little out the breather. It's normal. Remember these are 30+ year old trucks that probably were not treated well and also sat. When it started puking oil out then worry. Even the 6bt's have catch cans on them from the factory....
