Probably about 5 hours...but now I know exactly where to slice and bend ( I saved my measurements) so I could fab one in 3 hours. That wouldn't count installation.
I pulled mine (I've got 14:00's,hardly small tires!) to help with turning, acceleration and braking. You will notice a HUGE difference if you pull the outer duals. When you remove the tires and rims, your reducing whats called "un-sprung weight", which greatly helps. Plus, I didn't have 10...
The bearing issue from what I understand isn't an issue unless you load the truck heavily. I've run about 1000 miles since I pulled my outer duals, checked the bearings last week, and they were in great shape, just like when I checked them after I got the truck. And i'm toting a 7,000 lb...
Keep me in mind Frank if you get them, i'd like to purchase one from you to experiment with, and a second to rebuild as a spare, so I'd like a total of two. Thanks, Steve
Most combat rims are tubeless, but some have the holes to runs tubes (ie. bigger hole for valve stem of tube to fit into). They normally have a rubber seal or RTV sealent between the two halves to make a tight seal on tubeless applications.
:ditto: If it was worth tearing down to you, i'd fix it right and be done with it. I've discovered hairline scratches in races that become serious wheelbearing failure fast!! Hate to see them duals pass ya' at a stoplight!
When I was in College for advanced automotive mechanic systems, we were giving a list of household items, and was asked what would substitute brake fluid in ANY vehicle with hydraulic brakes, and not have a severe chemical breakdown or ruin valuable parts. The answer?! Coca-Cola!! (...
That paint would "set it off"!! I'm probably putting expanded w/ some reinforcements. I will actually be using this as a tool from time to time, so i'm building it robust!! :driver:
Got the center "Bull bar" finished today. I only had a few hours to mess with the truck, as I had to design a wheel chair lift for a local disabled veteran. Tommorow and Sunday i'll tie it in with the side bars.
Hey all, Deloit just called me, he is in Live Oak, FL. and is trying to get some contact info and a fellow there known to sell military truck parts. Anyone know of this man maybe who sels parts?? Maybe a # for contact?? Thanks!
It's built out of a piece of heavy gauge (1/2) rectangle tubing. I notched, cut and modified to get the shape and opening I wanted. I can't decide if I will incorporate the brush guard into the headache rack or not, kinda like a "Brush Truck".
