I would think it would be safer for it to fire up then down, am I wrong?? The metal below is thicker, and could cause a bullet to return towards the cab...if not in it??
RE: 8.3 re-powers
Someone on here talked about putting a Dt466 out of a wrecked truck into there 5-ton awhile back. Not sure if they ever did....but I do know a Caterpillar 3116 250 H.P. will fit, I saw one in a 5-ton tractor once, turbo and all....
RE: Carbs
Its probably your governor setting, as sitting with no load it should "free spin" to around 3000 easily. Even if you had bad rings (highly unlikely) it would still spin up higher than 2500 with no load.
RE: Bridge truck axles
I also know that the "torsion arms" on the bridge trucks are longer then the standard 5-tons, so that would mean that the rear axles are farther apart on the bridge truck. I read a post somewhere on here once thast said the difference in spacing was 4", but I can't...
85-m1028...... your right, it is Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg, Miss. Thats where I get alot of my parts for my truck- and it's mostly training grounds for Reserves, but they have alot of trucks and surplus flow through there for transport overseas. They bring tons of tanks, trucks, etc over to...
All I know is I have a gasser R6602, and tuned right, its pretty economical, especially when Diesel fuel is at $2.74 a gallon, and gas is only $2.16 where I live....and it pulls great! Mines making around 215 H.P., and thats all I need!!
RE: Shift-less
I would do the same as what Joseph does.....as long as the transfer is in nuetral, everything else spins naturally with lubricant and no damage. I hate wrestling with shafts!!
Yep, and it's an addiction too. I NEEDED to sell mine about ten times so far, cause it's a toy right, first to go?! NOPE!! Told my wife if it's gotta go, then i'll go with it!! She's finally wanting to ride around with me, and I plan on taking her on her first "Mud Ride" this weekend!!
It's probably a case of his wife saying "Honey, your going to sell that big green truck or else!!". And he knows if he priced it as such, he will still get to keep it!! :D
RE: Bridge truck axles
When I jack up one of my axles (both sides of one axle) then try to spin a set with the truck in gear, they won't budge. When I throw it in nuetral, they both turn together at at the same speed, not opposite of one another. Another way you can tell is drive on some...
RE: Pics of S250 shelters with complete radio installations?
I have access to tons of scrap metal, so I was thinking of building me a shelter, with some hook-eyes on top, so when i'm not off camping, I could simply just unload it until needed again. We always have the scare of hurricanes, so...
RE: M139 Road Speed
Yep, there is no way on getting great gas mileage with a bridge truck but it sounds like it runs great though. Do you happen to have any pics on the way your truck looks with the rear setup as you have it?? I thought of running mine the same way....and one thing i've found...
RE: Bridge truck axles
I am 100% exactly sure that the bridge truck axle housings are DEFINITELY longer than the standard 5-tons. The spacers are also added to have the proper backspacing with the 14:00/20's. I know this for a FACT as I had to purchase one once, and the housing is larger...
I run dual wheel trucks all day long, for thousand of miles ( Large tow-trucks). You DO NOT want side wall contact between tires, as this DOES cause the tire to "heat-up" from the friction generated at high loads and rubber "rubbing" will tend to get "soft", and then one tire will blow, and...
