OBC,
To check your charging system, it is best to have it running and put a voltmeter across the batteries. You should be putting out about 26 1/2 volts give or take. If you are not, then you can use the TM to check the charging system. As far as having a draw on the batteries when the set...
How did I get drug into this mess???? aua
Clinto, that's actually pretty good. I think maybe we should start a contest. Who can come up with the best "Gimpy's" Island theme. The winner get's to help out with his next breakdown.
It's definitely the voltage regulator. When the voltage goes high like that and stays there, your voltage regulator is not putting out the signal it needs to. The TM's have the schematic and parts list and testing procedures for the voltage regulators. If you cannot repair it yourself, you...
The butler did it!!
Oh crap, now I've gone and spoiled the ending for you.
When you get around to firing it up I would love to see a video of it. I just love seeing these beasts fire off after new owners have taken charge of them. It sure is satisfying to give it a whole new life.
That's a great looking set. I can't let you slide by without any pictures, now can I.
Let me look in the garage for a know, I might have one...no promises, but I might.
Edit: Ever the salesman...Once you get it running you'll have to invest in a good spin-on oil filter adapter kit for it
Congrats on the smooth recovery...but I'm curious. It's now been two days since that recovery, and yet, we still have NO pictures. What's wrong with you man, you've been a member long enough to know we thrive on pictures!!!!! That combined with the fact that it's a generator makes me really...
I don't know how that post might have been perceived by most people, but I was not intending to sound like you were keeping secrets or trying to keep the information to yourself.
I was simply trying to let you know that by simply passing on a good source for OD parts, you were in no way...
I just saw this thread...it's good to know about the fuel filters. I'll definitely be ordering some of them.
On a side note and not trying to thread jack, but I just posted about having made a spin-on oil filter adapter for the 002a and 003a generators. If anybody is interested here is a...
Glad you got home safe Gilligan
Looks like I missed out on some more fun Sunday evening. Maybe I should have tried to hang around another night.
There is no point in keeping the guys name a secret, and sending PM's to only those who want to know. There are a lot of members on here who may want to buy things from this guy, or he may have parts available that members need...it looks like he has a lot of generator stuff, that could help...
Hey Good News!!!!!
I got my one heater working again!!!:razz::-D:-D:razz::razz:
That was for Gimpy, Stretch and DH.
Now for the rest of you wondering what the heck I'm talking about.
On Saturday night, one of my torpedo heaters finally ran out of fuel (we had been running them hard...
Hey all, I just got back home about an hour or two ago. The motor swap/rally went really well. I got there about 11:00 on Friday morning, and they had the motor almost ready to pull. We finished that up and started changing things over to make an LDT fit into the place of an LDS. Saturday...
Ghost,
If the gauge is dead, it's one of two things....the transducer or the meter...there is not much to the frequency part of these sets.
If you really need to get it running badly, you can follow the TM procedure for troubleshooting the Hz Meter on page 6-1 of TM 5-6115-585-34.
If you find...
Yup...Lex is correct. I had the fiberglass troop seats, but still had wood "Headache Racks" I was able to order just the components I needed and re-furbish my metal parts and now have a complete set of fiberglass seats.
today I started my troop seat project.
Here is a link to my project from...
It looks like the civilian model of the MEP-002a. That is obviously not what Onan called this generator, but the engine and tins around it resemble the 002a quite a bit.
Onan made several generators using the civilian equivalents of the military engines, but don't ask me what the models were...
Two words for you ferro...."Holy Chit!!!!!!"
I think that's a great way to demonstrate what an old semi-retired piece of military hardware can do. How did the old girl handle all those trips?
Alrighty Gimp, today (Wednesday) I got you a 20-25' piece of that corrugated pipe cut off, and in the truck for tomorrow. Thursday morning, I'll be leaving early to make my run out through Dayton to pick up Lane's stuff and head up to stretches. I'll have the pipe with me, and I'll bring my...
If you can get 2 ar's for 1500 I want to know where you're buying them...I'll take a truckload at that price!!!!
the cheapest you can find them near me is about 1100 or 1200 each.
