M1008 Lift Kits - Seek advice on size ( 2,4,6 inch) & type: block or reverse shackle

I agree with Skinny. If you are going to run HMMWV wheels and tires, you will have to trim your fenders regardless of how much lift. The reason for this is due to the articulation that occurs when crossing a ditch at an angle. But what's wrong with fender trimming? It's easy to do. For the...

    zero rates and humvee tires

I use Dyna Beads in my 11.00/20 NDT. After getting up to around 10 MPH they smooth out perfectly. I love 'em.

Your pick of a CUCV? Reasons? Where to buy?

TechnicallyTactical - I was at the same point as you back in 2008. I didn't need a CUCV, but I wanted one. I wanted one because they are the last of the dumb diesels and anybody (including myself) can work on them. When that Magnetic Pulse bomb goes off, these trucks will be the best vehicles on...

CUCV as my daily vehicle? or bad idea?

When I acquired my M1028 in 2010 it had 12,338 miles. It now has 12,853 miles. It's going to break my heart when it clicks over to 13,000. I haven't yet driven it in 2013. I cranked it the other day to make sure the batteries were still up. I will probably pull it out and drive it over to the...

    Front sway bar bushes

Chesapeake - The NDT tread provides good traction on wet pavement as long as the tire presssure stays below 40psi. I keep mine at 38psi. Hope this helps.

Advantage of a CUCV over Civilian truck

biggins - I watch GL regularly and can attest that there are still excellent low mileage CUCV's available. I would suggest you watch for an Arizona vehicle with low miles. A nice straight M1028 with 28,000 miles just sold for a little above $5,000, which is a deal! Once you have acquired a...

Advantage of a CUCV over Civilian truck

Going back to the original subject of this thread, that is, whether to purchase a civi unit or a CUCV - I just purchased a brand new fully loaded Chevrolet Avalanche at a cost upwards of $55,000. It is without a doubt the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned or driven. The thing has...

    Front sway bar bushes

My advice is to remove the sway bar entirely and throw it away. I did this to accommodate cross-over steering because there's no way to have both. Without the sway bar my truck rides better and certainly articulates better. Hope this helps.

    CUCV Locking Fuel Cap

I installed a civi filler spout and a lockable cap. Had to fabricate an aluminum adapter plate to marry the spout to the CUCV housing, but it worked great. Hope this helps.

M1009 Rubber seals and such...Good Vendors?

Most of the vendors that offer replacement rubber for these trucks procure the stuff from Chinese repop manufacturers. The window channels seem to work OK, however the vent window rubber and windshield rubber is way too big. The only way to make the windshield rubber work is to cut it in two and...

    Lets see your OD CUCV's

Reply to bigtruck - I used Gillespie 383 CARC Substitute from Army Jeep Parts in Bristol, PA https://www.armyjeepparts.net/ Army Jeep Parts offers it in gallons as well as 16 oz spray cans. Hope this helps.

Yea it was over a year ago when they did mine. Guess things have gone up a bit.

Anyone had their IP rebuilt recently?

I'm trying to remember. Dang, getting old sucks! I believe it was somewhere around $375 including the new check valve. Best thing to do is just call them and ask. At the same time as the IP rebuild I also installed new injectors. Got these from the same place. Installed all new fuel lines and...

Anyone had their IP rebuilt recently?

I had mine rebuilt at Diesel Injection Sevice of Cincinnati - 800-828-1562. Great folks and great service. My pump looked brand new when I got it back. They even installed a new check valve and sent the old one back for a spare.

    Do I need bigger brakes...?

The correct setting for the rear proportioning valve is for the little dot to be at 12:00 when there is no load in the bed of the truck. Please see post #75 in my rebuild thread http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?54469-Kinda-got-carried-away/page8&highlight=kinda+got+carried Hope...
