I am finishing my M1028 rebuild now, and I will be running 11.00/20NDT on custom 20" steel wheels. See posts #30 and #40 in my rebuild thread at http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/54469-kinda-got-carried-away-4.html#post761174 .
I built the wheels in 1985 and ran them on a lifted civi K30. I...
I am currently lifting my M1028 5" and will use the drop pitman from Off Road Designs and a steering block from Rough Country. Each repositions the steering approximately 2-1/2", so this will keep the drag link level. As long as you take it easy in the rocks this will work fine. I ran this...
OK, I am ready to make a decision on my instrument panel and I would like everybody's imput. I can purchase a new aluminum cluster face to mount the new gauges, so now I need to settle on the gauges themselves. Thinking about using new M35A3 or Humvee gauges, with large speedometer and tach...
The LMC door seals are fine, but the LMC windshield seal is about 3 inches too long. I threw mine in the dumpster and found a NOS seal at an obsolete parts dealer. Get the GM parts number and Google it - you will be surprised what pops up.
Rich;
I am currently rebuilding my M1028 (see my thread "Kinda got carried away...). To deter unauthorized use, I have changed my ignition switch and door lock cylinders. The original ignition switch is long gone, but I still have the two original door lock cylinders. You are welcome to...
I'm in the process of installing the lift kit on my M1028, so I thought I would inspect the U joints on my drive shafts for anything unusual. The front shaft has the standard grease-able U joint closest to the axle, and this appears to be in fine condition and has been lubricated regularly...
Well, I am finally around to doing the Doghead Starter Relay Modification (DSRM). There are two more relays mounted on the same plate. While doing the wiring, I got to wondering what these two relays were. I did search-after-search on the CUCV site but couldn't come up with an answer. Who...
Something else - when I originally started this rebuild thread I had forgot to include a separate post regarding my rear disc brake conversion. Instead of re-hashing the info here, I figured it would be best to link to that oast - http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/52121-rear-disc-brakes.html
Made a mistake in Post #33 - the correct part number for the passenger side vent window assembly is 15634472. Up through the 1984 model year, GM offered all the parts to rebuild the vent window assemblies. Then starting with the 1985 model year they discontinued all the parts offerings and...
OK, I plan to install 11.00/20 NDT on my M1028 (see my rebuild thread "Kinda got carried away...). I have already done this before in 1985 on an '85 civilian K30, so I know it will work with the correct lift and fender modification. On that '85 civi truck, I changed ratios to 5.13, and it was...
November 10, 2010 Update -
Abandoned trying to rebuild the vent windows. The replacement rubber from LMC is not the same as OEM, different profile and too big. In addition, the vertical rubber must be glued to the post, whereas the OEM rubber is mechanically bonded.
I found complete NOS...
