But wait, there's more: No ground for horn at steering column

I may have misunderstood, I thought there was some question as to whether column was grounded. Thought the picture would confirm that. I run and maintain & repair 10 registered vehicles(4 of which are currently CUCVs, in daily use), as well as a the business itself. Not always time for...

But wait, there's more: No ground for horn at steering column

I believe the steering column is grounded. Horn switch completes ground to metal part of wheal itself. Attached is picture of a quick, get though inspection horn button on old 1028A2 based dump truck(now retired out back). Screw holds wire to steering wheel in one of the holes for horn...

    Cold Weather and CUCV's

In my opinion it is good to have a block heater if used much below 20F. Yes, they will start a lower temps if things are working right. But cold starts are harder on everything than ones warmed even by an hour or two with block heater. If colder, the same applies, and one hopes everything is...

    Intermittent Alt 1 light

When I "rebuild" my alts, I usually do not replace the bearings if they seem tight and are running quiet. Usually they are not the problem, especially on relatively low mile CUCVs and the OEM ones are probably better than the reproductions.

    MEP-8xx series fuel pump

The 003 uses the older style round 24V Facet pumps. They are usually several available on fleebay.

    MEP-8xx series fuel pump

I had a couple on back order from Summit for a few weeks, and got a notice this week the order is canceled and refunded due mfg discontinued.

    Bed mounting holes

Just guessing, but the chevy C-K series pickups changed a lot around 1982. I'm pretty sure all the frames in given production type would have come with a standard set of holes. They certainly did not build a special frame for the M1010(wire harness, yeah, but not frame). I could be wrong...

    MEP-802 fuel pump failure

OK, here is an update. On the bench I confirmed the pump was drawing current, so I figured pump must stuck somehow. On bench, with 24V applied, I could hear the faintest sound coming from pump, the normal pumping sound, but barely audible. I sprayed solvent in it while tapping it and the sound...

    MEP-802 fuel pump failure

I took my 802 out of container to give it a run, which I try to do every 6 months or so. The lift pump for day tank is not working. I have 24V to its harness plug, so no mystery there. Just wondering how common this failure is? Unit has only about 20 hrs since re set and the Airtex (new...

    Intermittent Alt 1 light

Loose belt can creep up on you, that's for sure, and is often the cause of intermittent alternator. If your still having problems, maybe try replacing or rebuilding alternator. The only alternators I've seen that were intermittent though were a batch of surplus govt rebuilds I bought that...

    Questions, issues with my CUCV

Of the things already mentioned, the fuel filter is most likely. These should be changed regularly anyway, and a clogged fuel filter would cause most of your symptoms.

Dongfeng cummins engines??? Are all cumins engines made in China?

Lets hope they do not go down the same road as Cat. They set up an engine plant in China around 2000 to make equipment engines. They were reportedly OK. Then when the Cat people left and stopped checking, they went down hill with the quality control. So the story goes on equipment forums...

Cucv back to stock glow plug controls

Not even sure a test light would show the problem, if contacts on relay partially engaging light might go on, but it is a good start. To OP; you did check or replace the glow plugs? You should check them again at some point. Have seen cases where people with problems with system and manual...

Butchered fuel system / Chasing Air Leaks

I have used compressed air in tank to push fuel out to find leaks before the fuel pump. Usually I try to bleed to the filter base and then bleed to injectors. You can get fuel to the injectors by cranking engine. Does not take long to wear down batteries and overheat starter. You could...

Cucv back to stock glow plug controls

Another thing to check; If the relay is bad or intermittent, you could also get a good voltage reading on voltmeter even if relay is not making full contact. Does not take much amps to register on no load test device, takes a lot more to run the glow plugs.

Butchered fuel system / Chasing Air Leaks

Guessing the gator aid bottle may be to catch fuel when trying to bleed air out of system, if line is attached to top of filter housing. Pictures might help.

Cucv back to stock glow plug controls

If the relay is bad, glow plugs will not work even with the button type actuation. One thing I have seen is the relay(or solenoid) actuates with button or stock system, and the contacts sometimes connect all the way, sometimes not. This kind of intermittent situation can be harder to...

    Mep003 not making electricity

Is the main breaker on? Have you read the user and service manuals? if not, you can download them from this site. Kind of an old thread to jump on, but whatever....

Who has bypassed the oem breaker in an 002 and mounted an external breaker?

Taking the twelve leads off the gen head and wiring in a 240V configuration should be relatively easy. Getting the gauges to work after that would be a challenge. Seems like you would essentially be eliminating the control box and the output box. It would then be similar to civilian Onan...
