I can change a tire on a standard cargo 5 ton with my 3 ton floor jack. As mentioned keep the jack as close to the tire as possible. I use a 12 ton bottle jack for my wrecker though.
I've done it literally a hundred times, I use a front lug nut and thread it on the stud so it is flush with the end of the stud. That way you hit the top of the stud and the nut equally. Make sure you hit it straight, I've had some bend if they were in there tight.
Which way are you looking to go? More freeway friendly or lower gears for off road use? The 6.44's are pretty standard, there are some lower gears but they are very rare, something like 8 to 1 and 10 to 1 but you really wouldn't want to try to find 3 sets and swap them out if they are going into...
I can tell you that I gave up trying to get mine out in one piece. I ended up using a chainsaw from the inside of the run flat and a sawzall from the top side of the run flat and I cut them apart then pulled them out with a chain.
Hey Adam, ya that's Andy's place he is a good guy to deal with. Yes that was me you got the motor from too. If you go the 931 route I have one I will sell reasonably, I had big plans for it but I never followed through on it so I will be selling it.
Are you running a one piece shaft that you lengthened from a stock one or are you running a hanger bearing. I'm guessing your wheelbase is longer so I was just curious. It should be able to handle any RPM's your deuce can throw at it. We run deuce driveshafts in our mud truck and our motors spin...
