I would agree, even being off grid, its nice to wire the shop like normal and then bring in power through a twist lock connector. (As opposed to mains power) My friends have an off-grid cabin wired this way.

I wish I had a 2nd 802a or 803a on hand. I'll have to make due with having a spare set of filters and belt, and 60 gallons of treated diesel. Highly unlikely it will be needed where I live, but it's nice to be prepared. I keep a small Honda inverter generator as complement to the MEP.

Something's wrong with your pump or 802a. Mine starts a 3.7HP air compressor. Generator grunts hard, but listening to the air comp, you'd never know it was on gen power.
Maybe your well pump is partially shorted. Get an amp clamp that can measure peak amps.
I bought a R2.8 Cummins (ISF 2.8 ) for a truck repower project. Lot of China made parts. R2.8 assembly is suppose to happen in the US. The engine has a generally good reputation. For reference, this is one of their joint-venture factories in China.

Like Uniquify stated, the fitting is AN-5, which can be harder to source. Most race shops jump from -4 to -6. I just bought a bunch of -5 JIC fittings from www.discounthydraulichose.com/
