Yeh, everything is the same but the tube length is longer on the trucks with the NP205. The tail shaft is longer on the NP208, so the drive shaft is shorter.
In my case, weld to weld measurement may not be helpful as driveshaft in 205 equipped 1031 is 'custom made'.

A great place to start would be changing the tranny filter. It is probably original, and if you are lucky, it might help your problem. Otherwise, check out the vacuum system, lots of threads on that.
My guess is you got a driveshaft from a truck with a 205 transfer case. These are about 58" outside yoke to outside yoke. The ones for the 208 are about 56".

I'd say the 1031 running the generator is not that loud. An air cooled MEP without ASK is louder. But the fuel consumption of the 6.2 would rule it out for extended home back up for me. The 002 and 802, 003 and 803 for that matter, are much less thirsty.

I knew the Lima-Mac was internally regulated, but have not looked into the specifics much. The RPMs just need to be right from my understanding. Does it work like an Onan Magniciter? The Onan guys on the Stak love these due to lack of electronics, if I recall.

If you have the governor off the 1031 engine and all the wiring for it, it probably could be set up to govern any motor. There is a ramp up and overspeed circuit included in original PTO driven 1031 control box. A mechanical governor might be easier to set up, may already be on the Wisconson...
Well, this is not as nice looking. It is just 1.25 in NPT (national pipe thread), 45d coupler, a 90d 'street' and a 3in nipple. It is just what I had around shop after 002 muffler project.
I also put an 3 or 4 inch extension on my 802, attached to muffler output threads by a 45d coupler, and then another 90d at end of extension. This makes it point down so water can not get in and no rattling flapper and noise can be directed some. The thread on exhaust on these is 1.25in NPT...

I'm sure it has happened. Have never seen it myself in the dozens of chevys I've owned and worked on. Usually if they jam, it is the rod that goes from lock core to switch has been bent or jammed by someone trying to fix something else on steering column.
So you are going to replace a functioning, original, USA made switch that is OK? If it is on a CUCV, it may be low use. Lube the sliding parts up with white lithium greese or something. My opinion anyway. What ever you can get to replace it will not be as good unless you can find an NOS part.

Very unlikely to run at stable RPM that way, so you know. Maybe time to get a new one from store if you really need it and don't want to sort this one out. If you think this problem on this generator is a pain, suggest you not get an MEP-002a.
