    New to mep 002a

The pole of front top of starter is negative. I see in your picture #4 that you are missing one of the three fuel filter canisters. Up front to the left of those are your fuel pumps. I would suggest you download the TMs from this forum and get a basic understanding of unit's operation. That...

    generator is hunting violently

It could be clogged fuel filter, line or air leak in line as well as carb with that symptom. Am not familiar with that motor, or it has a fuel pump or gravity feed. Has been discussed on the Stak though.

    generator is hunting violently

Some units have a 'wax motor' involved in RPM control as well. If no one can help you here, go over to Smokstak (antique engine and tractor forum) and go to the generator sub-forum. Lots help there. Be sure to state make and model and pictures if possible, or you won't get as much help. The...

MEP-003A - Has anyone put a oil pressure light on their instrument pannel?

My 002 and 003 with ASK also have gauge out of site, but have seen pictures of ones where it is routed and readable outside the ASK. Another thing get to.

    Hard starting 1028

A inexpensive, permanent fix of leaky fuel filter base is to remove pressure sensor switch and plug hole with flat screw and JB weld. The fuel pressure sensor is set up to be used with STE-ICE test unit, which is hardly ever used.

    Precision Fuel Pump

All the one I have seen are not adjustable. If it is way off, it might be the wrong pump. Otherwise, sometimes it helps to thread the steel line on before you bolt down the pump.

    Outfitting M1031 SECM

I don't know if you saw this before. It may not be ideal, but it does include connection lugs and a breaker (which I have yet to test).http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?67300-Voltage-selector-switch-for-1031 Am confused, still in link color, shows how much I know about computers...

    Outfitting M1031 SECM

Mine is also stock. I did build a reconnection panel from an MEP-018a that will hook to the 12 leads of the Lima-Mac. Have an auxillary air tank, will be set up to speed fill from shop compressor for limited mobile air with out engaging generator. Along those lines I have a collection of NATO...

    Leaking Head Gasket

With this being your daily driver, and you in WI in winter(unless you have a warm garage), it might not be a good time for you to do this job yourself. Otherwise, it is not a difficult job to replace head gaskets. You will need decent tools, including torque wrench, a good place to work for at...

Newbie looking for info/people familiar with the MEP 002a and others

I have to respectfully disagree here, I have an 002 with an ASK and an external muffler (one that would fit a CUCV) and a lot less noisy than a standard 002, which I also have, so have compared them. It is true the mechanical noise is a lot of it, so an extra muffler without an ASK or other...

    HUMVEE question

Related to CUCVs, Schott surplus in Maine used to sell a lot of CUCVs before they were available on internet auction. Seems like they must have bought them in large lots. Also, I believe they have offered M998 humves off and on for quite some time. Always with the stipulation they were for...

    battery wiring, missing second battery

The short answer is yes. But you realize you still need two batteries right? All the civilian 12V 6.2s came with two batteries and needed them. You might be able to start engine with one big new one on a warm day, other than that, you will go though starters due to lack of amps.

    battery wiring, missing second battery

A couple of lead-acid batteries in passenger compartment? Mostly that is not a good idea for safety reasons unless you have secure, vented battery box, tie downs and good insulation of cables to front. Under the hood is a good place for batteries, right above starter.

Really frustrated. .M1010 and questionable work

I do my own mech work, but if I took a CUCV to some place and they made the "Bravo Sierra" comment on military 6.2s being different (other than some electrical), I doubt I would use the shop or at least ask to speak to the head adult(to see if one was there). The main difference between the...

    Broken Accelerator Cable

I recently bought a 1008 from GSA that had a new cable installed that was too short between the mounting clip and the IP, so it would idle too fast. I temporarily fixed it by duct taping in instead of clipping in. I just bought one from antennaclimber when I saw he had OEM ones. He has an ad...

    Reconnection Rotary switch backwards?

Switching the whole box would be the easiest approach, replacing or re wiring switch is very difficult, I have an 003 that came with a miswired switch that cost me dozens of hours trying to sort out, and I had another unit next to it to look at. If you eliminate the switch and hard wire to...

    Reconnection Rotary switch backwards?

I just replied on smokstak to the second post here, which is the same as the one you put up on the Stak. 120/240 is off L1 &L3, L2 is not used for that voltage. Your first post here is kind of confusing, do you mean that you are getting power output on meters but will not take load? Your...

    Newbie with MEP-003 Questions

Perhaps you could determine condition of unit a little more before throwing a lot of money at it. See if the motor turns free(5/8 socket at front of fan), look for signs of burnt stator and control board components. These rigs are pretty tough and easy to work on once you know their layout...

    Newbie with MEP-003 Questions

I agree with Ike, that is part of the switch that locks out starter once motor comes to speed (S7). It should be under the little oval housing with a wing nut in your second picture. Looks like the fuel return line on top of pump, usually this goes to a 90d fitting and a flex hose. Looking...

How NOT to reseat a tire on an M886

That is because your buddy did not know how to either seat a tire. Got be verticle or tied so there are not large gaps between rim and tire bead. Likely some would say never to do this, but if done right it does work in the field. Lets you keep working. Especially usefull on de beaded bobcat...
