Never work any old transmission in reverse. It has no clutches just a brake band and they do not like to be worked. I had many plow trucks that went forward and shifted perfect but the reverse band was worn out from back dragging. Not my truck and you can do as you wish. But I just wanted top...
I would use a 15/16" socket on the main front bolt of the crankshaft. Turn it clockwise but do remove the glow plugs to remove and prime the injection pump. It makes things so much easier. And I never had to crank very much to get it primed. I just leave all 8 nozzle nuts loose and cranked 30...
Timing is as simple as lining up the pump line with the line on the timing cover. May need moved back a line or 2 but most times line on line gets it done. Good Luck. If it takes an entire weekend I would be sad. But if you don't need a core I would let all the lines hooked up to the pump until...
You can do this. Yes the intake must come off. Take a few pictures and write notes to boost your confidence. No wizardry here. Everything fits together easily and no special tools are needed. Most is 13mm & 15mm deep & Shallow socket, 15mm swivel socket, 15mm wrench, a 16mm or 5/8 line wrench, a...
From here it is centered and leaking from the injection pump into the block valley under the intake and out the weep hole at the rear of the black valley and coming out the flywheel / torque converter cover hole. Please grade me on my wild guess. Thank you. And no use doing the I will dance...
OK. I went and picked up a customers M1009 that I had at the transmission shop for the differential overhaul and the TH400 transmission. Ouch it hurt to pay that bill. The issues was it had a lo speed big clunk on occasion and spit transmission fluid out and sprayed the gate with ATF on long...
Sorry I have to ask do you have the battery cable that runs to the starter with the correct end on it at the starter that clocks the cable in the right position. You Know. I have them also. heat shield, Have. Support bracket , Have.
I have one on the shelf in my barn. Save some coin and stop up and I am flexible. It is the direct drive model. But I also have many new 28MT and alternators. More then I need anymore.
The OEM CUCV wiper switch is a multi function switch mounted on the turn signal switch. It was GM's first year for the smart stalk switch in the GM truck line. So it is column mounted on a stock CUCV of all variants. I hope that helps.
Not mine but seen it and wanted to share. Taking the body off of a rusty CUCV is the only way to properly do the repairs. I don't think I would attach the new 1/4 panel while the body is unattached from the main frame. But I did this hanging up of M1009 tubs a few times with out the rotisserie...
Fun times. You are doing great work. That makes you a great student and an excellent mechanic. I am here to help anytime. I don't know everything and many things I leave up to someone that does. I don't want any half fast work and guessing going on. I will save money on groceries but vehicles...

1984 was the first year for the smart stalk controls in the Chevrolet / GM trucks line. The 1983 still had the dimmer switch on the floor and the wiper switch on the dash. So if you are not concerned about originality just buy the 1983 wiper switch and wire it in. The washer works from the 1983...
I was just trying to help. Remain calm. Yes you can do a 2 position switch. But before you go thru all that make sure it has a great sufficient ground and the plug on the motor is fitting tight. After many years of hard use the plug can loose it grip on the connections. Check it out and report...
Good old Facebook had to rub salt into the wounds. It reminded me that it has been a year since I pulled the current project into the garage. It didn't remind me of the 25 years in set over 8 ft behind the wall where it is currently setting. I found an important piece of history to sooth my...
The grinder and cut off wheel are your friend. But you already have the replacement. Have at it. Unbolt the retainers that secure the cable. Don't cut them. I see that a lot. Good Luck.
