I've got a 1/2 inch Robotool, and it came in handy when we needed to change a tire on a trailer. We did have to bust the nuts loose with a cheater bar, but the spin off and snug up went a lot faster, and that counts when you are sitting on the side of the road. I'm keeping mine!
If we can get a few made up, I could swap you one off my shop van for a made up one. I know it's GI, or at least as GI as it can get because it came that way from GL.
Only way to save them is to keep them out of the sun. That either means a cheap tarp replaced annually, or a covered building to store them in. Anything else is just whistling in the dark.
Kenny's decal is more of an 'inside thing'. If you see one on a vehicle, you know they are on SteelSoldiers. We really don't need advertising, it just attracts too many zombie phreaks and other assorted 'individuals' that the hobby could do without. Check some of the statistics on the members...
It's fine the way it is, the only serial number that counts is the one on the frame. Officially, it's an M103 trailer frame, but they put all sorts of different beds on it to make it into a whole slew of different trailers. M-105 was the main cargo version, that's all.
You got me curious, so I looked at mine. It appears to be quarts, since the marks are showing 'full', down '2' and down '4'. After sitting for a while the oil level should be the equivalent of 3 or four 'high' from the full mark, since the GI filters drain. HTH.
OPCOM has a detailed writeup on working on the deuce axels - While it's on here somewhere, it may be easier to find on his 'www.bunkerofdoom.com' site. The usual cause of oil getting into the hubs is not inserting the cork in the cutout. Easiest tool to seat the inner seal is a four inch...
I've probably got 500 on the shop van/pantry truck and about 300 on the M-36. The other four probably don't have 25 miles between them. All on over-the-road diesel.
We've been using OptiLube XPD for over a year now (since the first posting of this info). This study was originally in a PDF link here on the site, this post #1 simply puts it here so those challenged by external links and .PDF files are saved the pain of dealing with them.
I contacted SSG Flood in September and got a reply from him, then went to the WETS myself to see him. They are really busy as this is an 'additional duty' assignment for the full time Marines at the Reserve Centers. After the first of November those guys are all putting in 16-18 hours a day...
