I started taking some of the unneeded items off the trailer such as the stake pockets and reflector plates. The plates I'm going to repurpose as fill material for the pocket openings on the deck. There are a couple of spots where the deck was bent up and tore the side metal. I left the stake...
My fix was to air the tires up, disconnect the CTIS controller, start the truck to verify nothing then dumped the re-filled tires. It would be nice to have a working CTIS but I'm not in a place financially to start dumping more money into the truck. If I take it to Big Bend in Oct then I might...
Finally got the new parts in to finish the axle rebuild. While the inner bearing race isn't a Timken at least it's not Chinese. I don't know how much better Spanish metallurgy is but I'll take a chance that something from Spain is better than something from China.
I didn't have a socket the...
Its not a leaking issue, the dump valves are staying open and thats what is causing the tires to go flat. The question is what is causing the valves to stay open?
Well the TMs don't seem to be much help in this matter. Here's what's going on while I try and troubleshoot things:
1) With air tanks empty I can start the truck and then set the CTIS to Run Flat
2) Air tanks air up, tires eventually start airing up
3) Manifold makes appropriate clicking...
So after physical therapy this morning thought I'd try starting the truck again to see if it was a stuck and not bad valve. Hit Emergency on the CTIS and every thing started filling up. Switched to Highway once the air tanks were full and it looked like it was going to self correct. Up until the...
Everything was working fine when it was parked a couple of days after my knee injury. Keith_J came over and repositioned both the 1078 and my deuce as I had moved them the day of the accident so he put everything back in place for me. The truck has since been sitting for about 6 weeks. The...
So I can't' even get into the truck let alone work on it while the knee is mending but I noticed that the front tires were starting to get a little low so I got the ladder out and was able to reach in and fire the truck up so the CTIS could air things up. Big mistake on my part. I haven't...
Nice job on the pulley! I get about 40° at the vent on mine even when it's in the mid 90's out. The problem is there's so much space inside the cab, so much heat coming off of everything (the floor, the windows, the roof, etc) that the A/C just can't keep up with it. I can keep it to the...
Race won't be in until 4/24. Since its going to take that long I went ahead and ordered a set of shocks too. If I was really industrious I would simply pull a hub off my other generator trailer but it's in the back field with a MEP003 on it. Plus this way I get the rest of the day off.
I'm making tons of progress. When I first went in I could bend my left knee (good one) 140° and my right knee (bum one) 80°. I can now get my right knee to 125° so figure a couple more weeks and I should have range of motion back to pre-accident.
Well once again 1 step forward and 2 steps...
Well I'm giving in and rebuilding the axle that's on there. I was hoping I could just use the old drums on the electric backing plates but that won't work either without a fair bit of modification of the inside of the drum. I know when I'm whupped and will just live with the surge brakes...
I'm going to simply try returning the hubs and see if they have ones with shallower outside races. If not I'll just see if the original hubs will work with the new electric brake backing plates. I'll be stuck with the 8 lug bolt pattern but at least I'll have electric brakes. Either way I'll be...
