A few 4x8 sheets of 1/8" aluminum should fix the rot but getting the rivets out that are about 1" apart surrounding the entire perimeter will be a fun job. I can then lay the old panels on top of the new ones and match drill everything. It won't be terribly difficult to fix just time consuming...
Well we picked the shelter up yesterday. I was not pleased with the condition and lack of mention of substantial rot in the outside panels but after 6 hours of driving to get it I felt obligated to myself to go through with the deal.
Thanks to M813rc for helping out and doing most of the...
Will you have the truck and MKT at Tejada Living History event this weekend? I can't make it due to the broken knee but it would be nice to have one there.
I'm planning on a Rhino Rack Foxwing canopy that will cover one side and the back of the trailer. No sleeping inside the shelter as that will have the water tank, water heater, some type of pull out kitchen, and storage for all the other paraphernalia.
I'm anxious to get started but need to...
I haven't made much progress with things since I've been on crutches the last 3 weeks. They have me in an immobilizing thigh to ankle brace. I'm hoping to get a flexible one on Thursday so I can at least start driving again. To literally add insult to injury, the sandblaster I was taking the...
I'm looking for info on one like pictured below. It's aluminum but only 48" tall. Hinges are also on the right. I emailed Ron. Maybe he can send me in the right direction.
I got a better look at the 2 data plates on the shelter. The 1st one says "Radio Reciever Set AN/MRR-6 (XW1) serial number 1" and the second plate says "Electrical Equipment Shelter XW1 serial number 3." So evidently an early run or limited at least.
If you have a shelter number this looks like a good resource. Unfortunately none of the listings with photos has this one.

Ok a little heavier than I want but will probably work. The plan is to put it on a M116A2 and fit it out as an expedition type trailer.
edit: S-250 empty weight is 770 and this is shorter in height/length so should be a fair bit lighter.
Trying to figure out the nomenclature on this shelter to find out it's weight. Owner can only say it has AN/MRR 6 which I'm guessing is what equipment it was used for. Measurements are 48" tall, 72" long, and 60" wide.
I'm not trying to discourage you but the Goat is nothing like a deuce to drive or ride in. There is very little seat adjustment and at 6' you're going to be squeezed in there pretty tight. My suggestion is just don't worry about a top. I left the top and windshield off mine and just drove with a...
Red River parts has NOS hard tops. However, I would recommend mocking up something, say with 2x4s, then try climbing in and out a half dozen times. One of the reasons I sold my Goat was the difficulty getting in/out of it and it didn't have any top.
