Dan sorry for your troubles. There always seems to be something on these trucks but I told a friend if it didn't keep breaking I wouldn't know how to fix it in a pinch.
Along similar lines I was driving to a meeting back in the 90s and left about 0430 to get there. In the middle of no where...
WOW! You need to start a thread just to showcase all of that [thumbzup]
It's going to be a day or two before I get the chance to work on the brake problem. My wife got rear ended by a hit and run driver last night (idiot thought he could get away in San Antonio traffic at rush hour) so I'm...
Heat was my next option. We've been getting a fair amount of rain the last couple of days (over 2" today) so I've been putting it off. I'm pretty much done with events for the year so I've got until March to get it fixed :) If I can get them off I can swap one from the trailer onto the truck...
It's going to be sitting outside until I can get the brake parts removal figured out. I cannot budge the lock ring off the canister. I'm guessing the last person who had it off forgot the part in the TM saying to use "anti-seize" on it.
Has anyone else done this? I'm having a heck of a time getting the lock ring loose. Tried NDTs drift suggestion with no luck - kept slipping off every time I tried to hit it. I then tried a chisel to get a better bite but I can not get the thing to budge one bit. It's been soaking in WD40...
I'll be pulling the brake chamber tomorrow and take some pics but NDT already did a write up so won't duplicate that just try and get some good photos while I'm doing it. I'll be following his instructions for removal though...
I can't learn to fix it unless I break it first :)
I'm not going to make the Austin parade. I'm hoping to have it fixed in time to do the San Antonio Parade on Saturday. At this point it'll just be a matter of getting the parts sourced. It shouldn't take too much to remove and replace as...
Thanks for the write up on this. I'll be doing that tomorrow.
A handy item to have in your vehicle tool box is a 3/8" plug to block off the air supply line in case you're in the middle of no where (or sitting in line for a parade) and the diaphragm decides to crap out on you. You can pull the...
And before I got to the top of that hill to start the parade I was deadlined! I started venting 2-3psi of air per second out of the right rear brake pot. Turns out the diaphragm blew so I was losing so much air the brakes were automatically locking up. It was fine whenever the parking brake...
Sitting in line waiting for the start of the Universal City, TX Veteran's Day Parade. Next Saturday will be the San Antonio Parade. Have to hit as many as I can.
Last time I went to NAPA for a set of points and a condenser for my '57 Ford F100 the kid behind the counter started thumbing through the air conditioner parts. That's when I realized he was born after the last set of points had been part of a factory set up.
This is one of those Chevy vs Ford situations. You're going to have the 939 guys say "LMTVs are junk" and the LMTVs guys saying "no they're fine." I had an active duty guy say never buy a LMTV because they're broke down all the time. I've put 1000+ miles on mine and have had a couple of...
