Chances of driving from TX to CA with an auction LMTV without any problems are slim and none and slim has left the building. I might chance it in a 923 but not a 1078. I love my truck and now that I've had it for a while I'd drive it anywhere but know that I'd probably be sitting somewhere...
You can see mine on page 66 although it is a strobe not rotating beacon - http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?152882-Working-on-the-M1078-LMTV/page66
I got it from clintogf in the classifieds. It's 12/24v so I didn't bother checking to see what the voltage is at the plug...
I carry a piece of 2x10 and 3 pieces of 4x4 for cribbing blocks for my 12 ton bottle jack. Plenty of room to get the tire off. I also have Road Side Assistance so I don't have to use it on the side of the road.
Not one to be the "did you try search" but just looking under the FMTV forum you would have seen this just a few posts down (9 actually):

Thanks for that tip. It's been getting kind of annoying listening to it.
Randy - good luck with your quest. You'll get one sooner or later. Best to hold out for the right one versus the 1st one.
That's why people need to be familiar with their states regulations and talk to the DMV. Every state is different but you'd think GVWR would mean the same thing everywhere. It is what it is. I know people in TX try and get around Class A driver license requirements by listing a different GVWR...
Here's another video for all those Overlander dreamers. No price on the unit but since it's European I'm guessing major Euros.

Thanks! I really appreciated everyone that voted this month. If I wasn't voting for myself it would have been a tough choice but I took the easy way out. Beers on me (you just have to drop by to get them) :)
Stewart and Stevenson imported the cabs from Steyr so you should be able to find one in your area. Any large truck wrecking yards around? Probably cheaper than getting one directly from a Steyr dealer.
The GoodYears have a much wider and flatter footprint than the Michelins. I don't have any experience on snow or ice with them but they're a much smoother ride on pavement. I switched for that reason and also to have better gripping on wet roads. In mud they're probably worse than the...
I would agree. That's why I was wondering what Hwhomes was running on his truck. I think the wider, flater tread would be better on snow/ice compared to the more knobby Michelins.
Remember you're adding weight with the bed, pump, tank, diesel to run the pump, tools, hoses, etc, etc. At full load with 5000 lbs you're flattening out the suspension on these trucks. I don't know if adding air bags is feasible to the suspension but would at least give you some extra wiggle...
