There are a few different Airtex units that can work for this position, with a little modification. I would search the forums for the numbers (E8135 I think was one from memory).

Have you changed out the fuel filters, and cleaned out a particle filter (on the inlet side of the pump)? You might have trash starving the system... same goes for the tank.
I do the above, then rig up a clear plastic hose on the outlet side of the fuel pump (disconnect the line thats there)...
If it were me, and the machines were important to me... I would just find an aluminum tank that can be mounted in its place and dump the porous steel forever. Either drop in (smaller) or custom... I think it would be worth it for me. Of course in the mean time you could always rig up extended...
Can you share the info on the label of that solenoid... to make sure it will even work with this machine (ie 24V). The OEM unit is preterminated with a connector, and has only 2 leads. The connector is not a big deal to work around, but if its the wrong voltage, lets determine that now.

You are right, its a typo in the manual. Its wrong in my PDF copy on the 802 as well. Not sure if there is version which superseded what we have.
The bolts used I think are GR8 1/2", so there is play in both directions.
Unfortunately for you, it sounds like the gauge is working properly, as is your alternator. You'll have to put your efforts back to the honey-do list we all avoid when we say we have generator problems. :ROFLMAO:
