It's not even a part you have to special order, you can get it at the local O'Reilly's. I believe there's a nut that holds the dipstick tube in place, you'll have to loosen that nut in order to be able to lift the dipstick tube out of the way, replace the seal, maybe put some RTV around it if...
Likely coming from the dipstick tube. When your driving every day the trans cooler stays full, but if you park it for a few days that fluid slowly drains back into the trans. The higher the level, the more pressure on that seal.
M1009 has been parked for a year while getting axle swapped and 52 inch front sprins, shackle flip, ext. Finally went to start it and see it move under it's own power and something is really... Strange.
Something is completely blocking the fuel line between the tank and filter, as best I can...
Yup, I've got a 14 bolt in an older parts truck out back that should bolt right in. Going to take it apart and clean it, paint it, and probably do a shackle flip while I'm there.
Since that truck has a Dana 44 with matching gear ratios in the front I'll likely swap that too rather than...
Well, I brought the carrier, pinion, and bearings to have Grand Pa help me look them over. As soon as I had things on his well lit workbench I started to see that the gears are not pretty. His words were, ”these are the ugliest gears I've seen that are not broken” and we found the pinion bearing...
I was hoping to spend my time and money doing some work on my Cummins, so I was thinking this would be a quick cheap fix. I wanted to be able to drive the M1009 while I had the Cummins torn down.
I am starting to think my plan may have to change.
Thank you everyone for the help, I'm going to hopefully have a chance to take a closer look this weekend. Now I'm wishing I had stopped taking things apart a little sooner before having to ruin the pinion seal and cross pin.
I'm sure that the ujoint wasn't the issue, and I had assumed pinion...
This started about 1000 miles ago with a small trailer filled with rock. On the way home it made some speed related, low growling sounds. The locker also might have been misbehaving, locking and unlocking during a normal turn.
The next day, no trailer, but still making the aweful sounds. Took...
With the Trutrack front do you still find yourself having to run one hub locked and one unlocked to keep it from ”pushing” in 4wd?
I did some research on the Trutrack, looks like a really sweet unit.
Edit: I'm off course talking about in dirt and moderate traction conditions.
We live about 500 feet above sea level, this was a camping trip in the mountains. If we had to tow anything more than about 100 miles I'd most likely use the Cummins powered RAM.
Because my truck doesn't have its factory bumpers I don't have the pintle hitch. We just put that hitch on last...
In the rock and hard dirt you just lock the short side hub and it's still better than stock. I like knowing that my right front will be receiving power regardless of traction or not.
Stock you always know that power will go to the wheel that has lost traction.
I've broken a ton of parts, but...
That little Cherokee is histarical. A guy offered I could have the engine if I towed away the rest of the Jeep also. I gave it to my brother and we've abused it in so many ways.
Cherokees are great fun. =]
It's going man, just getting to a point where I can enjoy my hobbies again. Wife and I recently moved to Ethel, which is cool.
How's the world treating you?
