What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Man I'm jelous, I'd love to get an E locker or air locker. Not having to jump out and unlock/relock hubs would be sweet! I can't justify it on something less than a Dana 60 for a full width. The gears and carrier are not the best thing to weld on, but in my off-roading experience I've never...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

It's a 10 bolt carrier, really nothing special about it... Even if it fails then the parts are easily replaced. Your photo looks like a spool, which really isn't better or worse than welded. [based on my limited experience and knowledge] Lastly, I'm planning an axle swap on this truck...

[video] Is this amount of smoke normal?

Oh heck, a lot. That's a really good point that I didn't even consider! High enough to make a huge difference.

[video] Is this amount of smoke normal?

I've never noticed much smoke at all during normal driving. It's newish to me and I have not driving it that much to really know. I'm likely just over thinking it.

[video] Is this amount of smoke normal?

Ravens roost, up near Naches off of 410. We had an awesome weekend! My big concern is that I'm going to let my wife drive it and tow with it. Maybe I need to invest in a pyro sooner rather than later... I hadn't noticed how much happy smoke it made till we took a video!

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Welded the front diff Thursday I Attacked the front diff of my M1009 with my welder. Many many people have never tried a welded front and tell me how bad it is. With manual locking hubs I feel a welded diff is a fantastic solution! Spent the weekend in the mountains playing with snow and...

[video] Is this amount of smoke normal?

First off-road trip with my M1009. Please excuse the belt noise, looks like someone previously striped one of the holes for an adjuster bolt. Hoping to have that fixed before the next trip. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8Ttyq4tnNM5Y0p4OW9pQnl0bk0/view?usp=drivesdk I don't have a pyro in...

Is 1/0 Gauge battery cable enough for a 12 volt converted CUCV? New cables time.

Well sure, but those numbers are based on continues draw. A starter should only be run for a few seconds at a time.... So the amp ratings are totally different. 2/0 is harder to work with, but I decided to step up to it. Either way, once this is done I can start chasing it's other issues. =]

Is 1/0 Gauge battery cable enough for a 12 volt converted CUCV? New cables time.

My M1009 was converted to 12v by the previous owner and the batteries now sit on either side of the radiator. The truck drains the batteries over a few hours, and it cranks slow. Batteries are new. Im going to build new cables, add a ground interrupt switch in the passenger side foot well, and...

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

Just picked up a mostly straight M1009 that someone had painted white. There is some surface rust poking through the paint, and IMHO, white on a CUCV seems wrong. I want to get a flat, durable, military style texture. Desert sand color. Please correct any part of my process that wouldn't help...

Just got an M1009 with no batteries. Looking for photos of the cable hookups.

Hey folks, made some kick ass progress on this thing yesterday. It's almost ready to get back off-road. For a truck that I purchased with so many question marks, I'm really pleased with how is coming together. Thank you everyone! New air filter Began the coolant flush and fixed the class 3 (is...

Just got an M1009 with no batteries. Looking for photos of the cable hookups.

Ran today! Turns out the starter and glow plugs are all 12 volts, and the engine runs great. I had gotten confused by the grounding buss, leading me to believe this was 24 volts. Felt pretty silly after I realized. May have a leaking freezeplug, still needs brakes, oil change, etc. However...

Just got an M1009 with no batteries. Looking for photos of the cable hookups.

I was more confused by the fact that the Emissions sticker mentioned spark gap, I would agree it is not the stock core support. Thank you for the heads up on the breather cap. Plans is a good question. I set out to purchase a K5 because I really like them, this one popped up on Facebook...

Just got an M1009 with no batteries. Looking for photos of the cable hookups.

So, I've verified two alternators and the battery cables definitely indicate a 24 volt system, the stock front battery is "upstream" from the ground, the drivers side battery is to be attached to the 2nd alternators bracket for ground. The truck last ran and drove two months ago, (according to...
