We are performing a minor repair to the floor and rocker on the drivers side of a M1009 we are selling, this is a common area for rust and the pics show the step by step process to get it fixed up. I will post this procedure in 2 or 3 posts from start to finnish. this repair is doable at the...
Congrats on you promotion Brian, I havent logged on for some time now. You right the shop looks like Army depot repair bay. [thumbzup] I would like to call my truck/project just "1028" . We got to get the ball joint replaced on it and add camber shims, maybe we could do a write up on it...

I would "da" dual action sand the feathedged areas with 80 grit, then prime, then resand the primed areas with 180 wet paper. primer is needed as it aids in the adhesion of the paint.
1. sand, grind the loose paint, 2. etch prime, 3.spot prime with urethane primer,4.sand with 180, 5. paint with...

Thanks for the reply, i have never had a plow before, seems like a natural use for our trucks. I found some used western plows from 1500-4500. I wonder how they would look in camo? If you hit some debris or ice, does the plow damage easliy? Thanks again for the info

which paint is best?
Gillespie paints from rapcoparts.com are the easiest to apply and they look very good. if you dont do the jams you will use most of 1 gallon of 383 green on the truck, the black and brown only about 1 quart each. check out the posts by chevyrac66, cool vids of painting...
Why dont you do a research thread on the enviromental issues with isocyantes. Maybe its possible to have yourself tested if you are that concerned, you could post the results
your comment that most painters soon can't paint with urethanes in BS IMO. My entire mixing bank is Dupont urethanes...

I have experience with Gillespie, type 1 CARC and type 2 waterborne CARC. either of the sherwin williams real deal CARC is much more durable than gillespie, it is a part a and part b type mix, gillespie is just paint and reducer. Having said that I like both paints. the CARC is rough, gillespie...
So we posted this thead to show that a couple of guys in just a few hours paint their truck with mil spec paint. It is possible with readily available safety gear and a booth rental to renew the appearance of a collectable military vehicle. The products are not radio- active or anything. Have...

The tech sheet speaks for itself, relating to required/recommended/mandated spray painting equipment. I will re,re, read it. This isnt going to turn into a tech article on respirators is it?
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
Where overspray is present, a positive pressure air supplied...
The tech sheet can be found a sherman williams, but to summerize a either a forced air hood or a Niosh approved repirator is ok, and spray in a well ventalated area. Water born product have less "volitile organic compounds" so I would say is "less" bad
People in the industry say waterborne...
Just get a HD quality set for a K30, 4x4 1 ton, chevy truck down at napa, replace both fronts at the same time, and she will be fine. tighten up the shocks so the bushing expands to the same diameter of the metal washer. also watch out for death wobble if you just got the truck. you can read all...

On topic, i have seen canvas covers for 300-500 bucks, shipping is the problem sometimes due to the weight. It seems to me that vinyl covers are more common. vinyl better-canvas more period correct-IMHO

Our supplier, sherman williams commercial coatings charges about 55 per can of part A and 60 (I think) for Part B, we elected to use cheap distilled water instead of the recommended 40 per gal water they sold. So it is more than GCI. Different, do you like the "look"?
